I recently used PollEverywhere in my Kindergarten classroom, however, we did not use it on iPads. PollEverywhere is a great tool for those quick, formative assessments to check for understanding.
I'm a Kindergarten teacher and currently working towards my M.Ed in Instructional Technology, This year I have incorporated iPads into my small group instruction and are using them as an independent center for small groups. I am looking for more educational apps that I can use during the independent centers, that are user-friendly and I can track. It's much more beneficial for them and myself to be able to track their progress and success. Thanks in advance for any suggestions and help with my iPad use in the classroom.
@ Jessica Thank you so much!! Can't wait to check it out! :)
I've heard a lot of good feedback about the polleverywhere app when used with ipads in the classroom. A few of my coworkers have used it for collecting informal assessment data and personal opinion questions. Has anyone found other uses for this app that lend themselves to use on ipads?
The one app I find most useful is Explain Everything. Some of my fellow teachers and I just gave a training of some of the various ways to use the app. You can find the slides for the presentation on my website under the presentations tab. I also have recommendations for apps for various purposes in the drop down menu under iPad Projects tab. Hope it helps.
@Nina I found this web tutorial on the ShowMe app. It really helped me understand what this Ipad App is all about! I can't wait to use it in my classroom! I hope this helps.
I just found this link that has 200+ educational and FREE ipad apps! This has helped me when trying to add apps to my classroom ipads!
Hi! I saw someone comment about the ShowMe app. I am not familiar with this.. could someone explain what it is? @ Daphne Coulbourn: I love using iTalk with the class. They get a book and record themselves reading it. They then listen to it and see if they made any mistakes. I have seen such an improvement in their reading. It is also great because you can share it with parents and they can listen to their children reading. For Kindergarten, Starfall is another great app to use. Hope this helps!
I am a first year teacher and using IPads in a classroom is new to me. I have a mixture of k-5 students in an ILC/SEL program and I am looking for ideas, testimonials, and experiences that can assist me with using the IPads in my room. Thanks to all of you.
Hi! I am a Middle School English teacher at a private school for special needs students. My school is very diverse and accepts students of a wide range of abilities. It is imperative that I used technology in the classroom to accommodate all abilities. For example, I have one student who has limited manual dexterity so she uses her iPad to complete nearly all classroom assignments. This is great because otherwise an adult would have to scribe all of her answers. I love seeing the increased independence, and consequently increased self-esteem, that has blossomed since the introduction of the iPad.
