Here we are teaching one of our favorite lessons 'Taco Truck', by Dan Meyer. Our seminar class is a huge success. Next week we are going to try one of Hungry Teacher's lessons called, 'Don't Pee in the Mathwater'. We have parents, administrators, and curriculum directors from around the our district observing our seminars. It's amazing the discussions generated by 100 students in one room. http://www.hungryteacher.com
Zack,
'Here Kitty Kitty' is a great lesson offered by Hungry Teacher, but have you tried. 'Don't Pee in the Mathwater?'
We are using 'Usain in the Membrane' for our Wednesday seminar class. Parents are invited along with other staff.
Here is an idea for a flipped topic, PIZZA. I have my students call their favorite pizza place and do a little research on their own (diameter and price). They will need to figure out the price per square inch of the pizza. I will partner this topic with Hungry Teacher's lesson, "Any Way You Slice It" (brand new). Wait until you see how challenging that lesson is. If interested, go towww.hungryteacher.com.
Check out their lessons. Besides Dan Meyer's three act Math, Hungry Teacher is my favorite.
I teach 6th grade math in Massachusetts. I'm looking for recommendations for:
1) excellent middle school math resources: websites, apps, books, lessons, etc; and 2) other great online math groups like this one where I can benefit from others' work.
So far, my challenge has been finding too many online recommendations that require hours of sifting through. Ideally, I'd like to get recommendations for what are regarded the best of the best. Something akin to Jane Hart's "Top 100 Tools for Learning," which provides a list of the most highly regarded learning tools.

Thanks for your help.

Just found a new tutorial, kinda combines Khan Academy and Hippocampus, but with much detail. See what you think, excellent for middle and high school math teachers.
