While researching the thoughts and opinions of assistive tech. in the classroom, to my surprise, I found that many think this is a disadvantage for teachers to have the ability to capture the students attention. Many of the sources I've viewed have brought up the complaint that when students are provided with assistive technology (AT), their reliance is built up, which alters or lessens the student-teacher interaction. Though this has SOME truth behind it, many of these web sites and even some journals fail to mention the positive outcomes of using technology to encourage student's learning. One positive comment I read in an article discussed the use of computers in a classroom. They mentioned that teaching lessons through computers can give the students in the class greater control over their learning environments and access to a larger range of materials to put to use in their learning process. This is completely true and, in my opinion, extremely beneficial to students. Computers give students more freedom to expand their knowledge through their own ideas...Any thoughts?
