Hello - I am a new tech integration specialist and I am having a hard time dealing with COPPA. I work in the Middle School and since all of my kids are 13 and under, it makes it hard to usse many of the best tools out there. Some do have an edu version, but you have to pay for it. How is everyone else dealing with this, or am I making to much of this. Any thoughts would be helpful. TIA

Hello - I am a tech ed teacher looking for any information dealing with the STEM Standards. Specifically my team is looking for ways to align what we currently teach to STEM. Any recommendations or suggestions?

For those teachers that are challenged to do technology for their school I think the place to start is with the budget. Some things are expensive but may not add that much value. As a rule, if the budget is tight and we are at 4th grade and higher, you should have no more than 5 students sharing a computer. Ideal is one/student but that can be cost prohibitive. One thing that is really great in a standard classroom is what they call a Whiteboard. This is similar to a bigscreen TV and kids are way more thrilled with using it than an old fashioned blackboard. One way to save some is to use Google Docs instead of paying for the license for Microsoft. That would only be possible if you have access to the Internet. If your school is using an Intranet or "closed" system that will not be easy. Try to get as much free content as possible. National Geographic, History Channel, PBS, etc. have lots of coll videos and many are age appropriate.

Hi I am also new to this group and I am writing to ask for your assistance.I was just offered a position as the tech lab teacher and tech support for the school. I will be a "specials" teacher for grades K-5. The problem I am facing is two-fold. First, the program/lab is being setup by me and hasn't been in existing so I'm starting up from scratch and secondly, I haven't filled this type of position before so feel confident that I can do it, but not sure where to start.

I've done some research online, but am hoping to find better information. Does anyone have a curriculum map and any ideas, lessons, suggestions, etc. that you'd be willing to share? Any information, guidance and/or assistance would be GREATLY appreciated. Nothing is too small.

Hi. I am new to this group. I will be in a new position as a CTE (certified technology educator) at my elementary school next year. I am very interested in reading what others are doing at their schools for technology integration. I am especially interested in learning how tech educators are helping teachers increase their proficiency levels in tech integration. What matrix are you using to measure progress?

Hi- I am new to this group. In the past year I have taken 5 courses having to do with technology integration. I am currently in my 3rd course with ISTE hoping to earn a certificate from ISTE for meeting the NETS for Teachers at a proficient level. I am always looking for new ideas and how to use new web 2.0 tools.

Hi Rachel....screencasting involves recording the activity on your computer and is usually narrated. I use a free screencasting tool called Jing to record narrated Powerpoint presentations. These are 2-5 minute mini presentations to cover key concepts to enhance/supplement learning.

Another popular use for screencasting to create tutorials for software applications.

Hello tech-loving educators - has anyone experimented with streaming TV to their classrooms?

Rob - what is screencast? I feel like it might be similar. There's this technology called SnapStream that allows you to record and stream educational programming. (Think PBS, Discovery, History, CNN, etc.)
