Using Photo story in the classroom

Using Photo story in the classroom

Photo story 3 is a lot easier to use than Movie Maker. The only draw back is that you cannot put video clips into it like you can Movie Maker. One of my fourth grade classes created a "documentary film" on an animal that they had researched.

Hi maestra,

First and foremost, we use PS3 for Digital Storytelling...writing a personal narrative, adding images, voice over, and music to create a powerful project. My DST webpage is There you will find examples, tutorials for using PS3, and teaching strategies.
In addition, I have used PS3 to create a "digital Documentary" as a followup to a research paper...The idea is to create a "Ken Burns" documentary feel to it. Our health teachers use it to create Public Service Announcements, bio teachers use it for ethical pro/con research topics...and the list goes on. SOme teachers don't like it because you cannot use video; I prefer it. Using stills requires students to focus on narrationinstead of "making a movie" We have kids use their own pix as well as supplemental images from the web. Flickr/ creative commons is a great place to get wonderful images that are legal to use. Let me know if you have any questions or want to talk more:

I love this program, but I am new with the integration piece. Will you share some of the ways photostory is used to compliment content that is being taught in the classroom?

I am tech integration teacher and yes there are LOTS more powerful products then Photo Story but my teachers love the ease of use and the fact that you can have 1 computer in the classroom and still be using it. I have all core subject teachers doing projects as well as a speech teacher, French teacher and guidance. Feel free to contact me if you want to see some samples or get someideas.
