I got my XO before Christmas had have finally had an opportunity to play with it.

It is a powerful computer. The keyboard is a bit small, but I need to remember that is designed for childrens' small hands. I am quite impressed with the level of programming that is available with the preinstalled software:
-Glad to see Logo (Turtle Art) installed but with Seymour Papert as part of the development team, what do you expects?
-eToys is a multimedia development program that looks like it will provide an unlimited amount of creative challenges for learners.
-TamTamJam has a plethora of musical instruments and voices that can be orchestrated. What fun!
-Write is a fully functional word processor.

I have included photos and comments on my "Dr. Z Reflects" blog http://tinyurl.com/389uml

It will take a while to learn about all of these programs but it should be fun.

What are you reactions to the software on the XO? Have you used it to create anything? What will be future of the XO software be? What standard Linux software have you run on your XO?

I am especially interested

Hi

I am still investigating but I find I really have to keep in mind who this was built for (if you read the XO support forums, there are tons of folks complaining about every little thing and I just want to scream at them to get a grip -- but I don't).

That said, I find the XO pretty neat and powerful. The keyboard kills me but I know that smaller fingers would be more agile than mine. I like the music software and I like how much of the applications are built on building knowledge of design and playful intentions.

I would love to try the mesh but there are no other XOs in my 'hood, as far as I can tell.

It has taken me a bit of time to shift from a Windows frame of mind to the Sugar interface, but I have it now and it will probably be easier for kids with no prior experience. It has made me realize how immersed I am in one operating system and it makes me wish I weren't. Therefore, I see my XO as an opportunity to move gingerly into the Linux neighborhood and see what's there.

I like that there are a ton of applications being developed and you can download them and install them easily enough.

Thanks for the post
Kevin
