Today I uploaded my video review of the XO Laptop to YouTube. A couple of weeks ago I uploaded my first video ever to YouTube, and two days ago I uploaded a video demo of the XO Laptop ebook reader.
If you're intersted you can take a look at them here.

It's been a good learning experience for me, and I'm glad that the XO and the OLPC was able to be the motivating factor that caused me to explore how to create and upload videos. It's really not that tough and I plan to create more in my role as a librarian. And, hopefully, they will get better with practice!

You are doing a fantastic job with the videos, Robin.
Thanks for the sharing and reflection.
Kevin
Hi Robin
Would you consider uploading it to teachertube? Teachertube is not blocked in many schools-so schools that have You Tube Blocked could see the video as well! You find teacher tube Here
. I use this site to host my kids podcasts as well.
Hi Kelley,
Yes, I will be glad to upload my videos to teachertube. I will get to it sometime before the end of this weekend.
Thanks for letting me know about this resource.
Thanks for the encouragement, Kevin.
Thanks for these videos, Robin.
It looks like my middle school is going to get a set of XOs for our incoming 5th graders next year. I have been asked to start to work with the 5th grade teachers (and some students) to get ready. Your videos will definitely be helpful.
That is great news, I'm surprised to hear that OLPC America is moving this quickly.
How many kids and machines are you talking about?
I am curious.
And what are the goals of the program?
Thanks
Kevin
We are talking about 150 students and 150 XOs, along with some for the 6 teachers.
The goals are still being worked out in full (of course), but my principal is really interested in bringing our students into the world of technology in a meaningful way and to transform the traditional classroom.

I feel fortunate that she has asked me to be a big part of this effort. It is certainly a pioneering effort, which is satisfying and scary.

I would appreciate any input/concerns/etc. you may have.
I think it has great potential. My only concern would be tech support for this relatively unknown machine, but maybe you have some great, innovative techies that are up to speed on Open Source platforms and the XO Sugar interface, etc.
I think it is amazing that your school district would invest money with the XOs and I think it opens the door for some pioneering teacher inquiry and classroom research.
Just a thought ...

Kevin
I think it is amazing as well.
We have some very dedicated people (myself included) who are willing to learn as we go, but so far no Open Source platform techies.

The thing that sold me was the XO's focus on collaboration and inquiry (see my blog posting here).
I don't know if this is helpful, but there is an OLPC forum that I follow in my RSS reader.
A lot of complaining, but also a lot of helpful tips.
Much of what they talk about is still geek-speak to me but I am trying to get a handle on what is inside this cool machine of mine. And so, I am trying to "enter the conversation" from the outside, lurking in the forums.

Thanks.
Let's see how useful it is.
