Hi Mary,

Eileen's cursive comment hit a nerve!  And I agree wiith you about the oressure cookers... that so discribes our district at the moment!  I almost feel like we've lost our balance.

Hi Joan,

I also read the comments regarding cursive writing. I think it is important for students to be taught how to read and write cursive and at least use it in the elementary school. They can make a personal decision whether to continue using it in highschool. The problem in our school is there is no follow through after 4th grade. Students need to be able to at least develop their signature. Also, many times a student's handwriting improves when using cursive. My third graders look forward to learning cursive. Our classrooms are becoming such pressure cookers with so much testing and gathering data that the students need some down time. I like to play soft music while the students practice. It is an area where no one has to worry about excelling or scoring advanced proficient!

Hi Joan!  I have joined both your groups - shall we discuss something?
