I teach social studies 7th grade at Tolland Middle School, and I am also Curriculum director at SEEdebate.org. We are a non-profit current events discussion website striving to bring widened perspectives and international news understanding to students. We are free and free from advertising on our site! Looking for collaborators for my students!!??
Educators (from all disciplines) create accounts and their students sign up for their teacher's "class". Teachers assign news articles to their students and they discuss them with all the other student users at SEEdebate. Teachers also have the option of creating their own public discussion, or of keeping their discussion private – seen by their class only.
We keep the site populated with important, current international news from diverse news sources. We create unique discussion prompts to get students thinking, as well as any background materials that might be necessary to increase student understanding of the topic.
In the first year of our beta phase, we have glowing reviews from our users. We presented at the National Council of Social Studies conference in San Diego in 2008 and were featured in the NCSS publication The Social Studies Professional. We currently have educators in 39 states and 5 countries, and are fast approaching the 1000 student mark.
Please check us out and if you think you can use us in your class – come aboard! Any advice, encouragement, ideas etc are welcome! And don’t forget to share our site with your colleagues!
Thanks Meghan. Your site is very interesting as well. I have already forwarded it to our Participation in Government teacher for use with her students, and I may use it with mine as well!
Your site, SEEdebate.org is quite impressing. Thanks for your message Meghan. I will suggest the site to my friends who teach at the tertiary level, as well. The wide range of articles in diverse topics is sure to grow. All the Best from Istanbul! :)

Happy New Year! I was wondering if you or your students would be interested in participating in a nationwide SAT Vocab Video Contest @ MIT university. If not, perhaps you have some educator contacts you could direct me to. We'd really like to get more students involved from Connecticut!
You can view contest details at BrainyFlix.com Please let me know. Thanks!
I am interested in learning more about SEEdebate.org. I am webmaster of Best of History Web Sites and Center for Teaching History with Technology and may feature your site in the near future.
