Thank you Lorraine. I looked at his impressive site. That is a great resource idea. I'm only sorry he isn't stopping in Guam on his next trip. I'm curious about how sailors navigated in the past and today. Thanks again.

    Hi Lorraine,a

Are you interested in setting up a "sister classroom" project?
My kids would LOVE to talk with real live american kids!!! We are studying halloween at the moment so they would LOVE to speak to people who actually celebrate it! Our classroom blog is www.5leung.globalstudent.org.au
    cheers

    Gidday Loraine from down under!
I am an absolute novice at this! but it looks as though it is a great way of learning and allowing or should i say keeping up with the kids!
We use headphones in both our IT Labs as well as classrooms from our Kindergartens up. I will find the name of them and our supplier. Its great to be responded to so quickly.
I have 20 or so year 5 & 6 pupils who I would love to set up a shared class with . they are currently working on THe Jason Project ~ Monster Storms which is conducted World wide with Dr Rob Ballard (Titanic fame) and National Geographic very US based but we are attempting to put an Australian feel to it.

Lorraine thanks for your quick log onto our class blog! Our students are Y7 which makes then 12/13 and we'd love to pair up with one of our classes. Im still getting my head around this site and a bit busy in the next few days but I will definatly make a move to get our students to check out your site. They'd love to get some feedback from Australia!
  • Myles Webb

That would be awesome, I completly got my wires crossed and thought you'd come from Australia and left a comment on the blog! I was talking to our ICT PD administrator who told me that all US schools are on summer break and of course I forgot that! Our kids would love any interaction possible although truth be told them (and myself) are a bit green at the moment. I need to spend a few days picking through this site and looking at all the information so I can upskill but that would be awesome to get some interaction going. I've had a brief play with voice thread so that would be great.... thanks for replying so soon. Next week would be great sometime if your interested Im also a full time classroom teacher and the PE Co-ordinator its the middle of the rugby union season and Im rather snowed under with work...

    Hi Lorraine
Got your message.Thank You it came through at 12:40am aussie time! No wories ,it is great to be able to share with someone else who is passionate about teaching , technology and how kids learn. unfortunately I am going to be a little indisposed over the next 6 weeks as I will be having a total knee replacement., but when i am recouperating i will certainly be following up on your threads. My years 5 & 6 gifte class working on the Jason project are using a wiki space called funlearningolmc.com. if you can find it through your browser i would be happy to invite you in it would be great for the children to realise that people all over the world can view their endeavours. Thanks John.

    About Vendée Globe Race:

After our nice chat, i plan to join you for Vendée Globe Project... i suggest that i help you to find french resources about this race if you don't speak french. I think it's a wonderful project for my 6th Grade. I guess that french sailors plan to join students during the race, like Rich Wilson: i'll check.

    I propose:
    1. We create a special group in my ning we can manage together
    2. We register our students inside this group when we are sure that we can work together...

What do you think about it ?
  • Vincent Mespoulet

    Hi Lorraine,

Thank you for your last message. I accept your suggestions. Even if you can't register your students, we can find others ways to share the race :) ! I have created a new group on my ning for this project. It would be interesting that you check it out here... I'll send you an invitation later and i'll put many ressources around Vendée Globe in french AND in english (check out the nice site of the sailor Jean Le Cam). We have in France educational materials around the race for the last edition (2004/2005)
    See U soon,
    Vincent

PS: do you know that your firstname is the nam of a french region :) ?
  • Thomas Petra

Thanks for the heads up Lorraine. I've posted your notice about the upcoming race on my blog. I hope he has smooth sailing.
  • Elizabeth Wargo

    Hi Lorraine,
Thanks for your e-mail. I've sent on your ideas to our French teachers. I've also passed on the information to my brother (former The Race 2000- Team Adventure racer), I'm sure he will love seeing how students are engaging.

    Hi Lorraine,

With your interest in in your students connecting online I recommend you take a look at Wiziq's virtual classroom. It is user friendly but advanced virtual classroom with a bunch of features that my capture your students interest.

If you use power points in your class I also recommend you take a look at athorstream's web based power point presentation sytem.

Lorraine! I can't believe I found you online! I love your KidPix video made in Animoto. How did you get the embed code for the video to put it into this Ning?
  • Beth Holmes

Hi, Lorraine, here's the key to embedding Animoto videos in Ning. Are you ready for this? You have to select the MYSPACE button and use the embed code generated for MYSPACE. Go figure! There is not an embed button for Ning. Learned by trial and error. Thanks for helping me!

Lorraine - i'd love to get your feedback. I should have noted that this toolbar is really organized for teachers in the USA only. But our free student curriculum (same url www.cybersmart.org) is used worldwide.
  • Jack

Hi Lorraine. I was wondering if your students would be interested in participating in a nationwide SAT Vocab Video Contest @ MIT university. If not, perhaps you have some educator contacts you could direct me to. You can view contest details at BrainyFlix.com Please let me know. Thanks!
  • Jack

Okee dokee! Feel free to pass along the website link to any colleagues in upper levels. Thank ya!
  • Anne Mirtschin

Hello Lorraine and thank your of shaing this. I cannot believe it has been that many months ago that he started out.The start of the race was quite memorable for me with our live blogging. I enjoy his updates on twitter and saw that he had lost some online contact. Fortunately it was in the last few days of his journey. What an amazing feat! Our students will certainly join in. Lorraine, I'd love to hear what you think about our free Educator Toolbar now that you've had it on your desk top for a few months. You can email me directly at mala@cybersmart.org or comment here.
