    Anne,
I have created a group--but the "group" link on my page is not active. My Page is http://www.classroom20.com/profile/DonaHowell?xg_source=profiles_me...
Even in my edit page, the group link opens to the form for adding a new group--I have to go to More and then Groups off My Page to find my group. The group is ED 3363-61. Help!!! (I hope I posted this at the right place.)
    Thanks,
    Dona

I am trying to incorporate Web 2.0 in all of my classes. We started a Tech Assessment for the 8th graders this year and a large majority of the assessment is about blogging, podcasts, wikis, etc. Something that NONE of these students have dealt with before. We are trying to change that.
  • maria shaheen

    Anne,

Yes I currently use Web2.0 tools in my university courses but know I need to incorporate so much more! I am excited to learn about anything and everything people are using in K-12 and higher education settings:)
  • Shelby W

We would love to connect with any of your classes. If we could figure out a way to connect with you guys through webcams that would be great. Thanks! :)

    Hi Anne,

I'm back. I haven't had the chance to check out my page since the last time we chatted. I still can't change my picture. I did notice, though, that my page does not have an upload button. The browse button gets the photo I want, but there isn't anything like an OK or UPLOAD button to click on. When I download to my Wiki, I have the browse and OK buttons. When I download to my school files I have the browse and upload buttons. Could this be the problem? If so, is there a setting I haven't hit?

    Hi Anne,

I will try and get the links for you. I haven't actually read any of their blogs yet, but i did help them explore the idea last year.

    All the best,
    Dorian

Hi, Anne! I get into Melbourne on Sunday night that week, and will be there through Wednesday evening. Let's for sure try to find time to meet! I don't know about the dinner, but I haven't looked too closely to the schedule.
  • Jon Freer

Yes, that's the one. SO far so good. Did you have a good experience with it? Many describe it as transformative. Did you find it that way?
  • Jon Freer

I am fairly new to all of this. Internet savvy yes, but web 2.0 and the learningprocess implied by it is new to me. My goal is to become very good at it. Perhaps you could point me in a direction. Although I have started to use some aspects inmy class, right now I am most interested in developing a good system for the faculty to communicate adn collaborate on issues that come up. Time is scarce and we have been going through a particularly trying time. I am looking at a ning like this one, but am wondering about any pitfalls and how to avoid them. Mastering a wiki seems like it would also be helpful. Any advice you cangive would be appreciated (I'll post this to the general forum as well.)
  • Monica

G'day... yes my plan is to be there again on Tuesday. I'll see you there then. Cheers.
  • Nicol R. Howard

Thank you Anne, for the warm welcome. I am already reaping the benefits of joining...!

  • Jenny Burroughs

Hello, as far as equipment we utilize polycoms here in Western, NY. We have done hundreds of virtual field trips to many museums, zoo's, etc. We also have done several collaboratives within our state to outside of the country. I don't specifically teach students. I instead manage all the distance learning connection that happen within our region. I also look for collaborative partners for our teachers. I would love to have a connection in New Zealand. I do not have one yet. Also do you own any Polycom video conference equipment at your location?
  • Jenny Burroughs

That sounds wonderful. Maybe we can test sometime via Skype and see how it turns out.
  • abdulmageed abdulraheem alhaj ah

thanks alot for your reply. In fact i'm sure that w/o education there will be no development. We are suffering in sudan and generally in Africa by the incorrect policy making and taking in education.
We as teachers we are interested in enfprcing our curriculae ,methodology.
We expect some people such as you can help in sudan education imrovement.
  • Jenny Burroughs

I see what you mean now. It is currently 3:20 p.m. on Friday here and your day is just getting started there at 7:20 a.m. on Saturday (16 hours). Really for schools to be involved it would have to be either 4:00 p.m. our time to 8:00 the next day for your schools.
  • Lindsey @SmartEd Services

Can you please send me the slide share? You can e-mail me at lalexander@teachsmart.org

Thanks for answering my question, Anne! I'll look into contacting Ning directly. Thanks again for the prompt response!

Hi Anne, thanks for your comment. VLE stands for Virtual Learning Environment; Blackboard, Moodle etc. We currently use Fronter. Nice work with the Netbooks, that sounds a fab project - how have you got round the health and safety implications? Do you limit the time students use the devices?
  • Anne Mirtschin

Hello Nina. In Australia we call them Learning Management Systems - interesting how each country has its own acronyms. My classes do not actually use the netbooks as it is the grade4/5 class which I do not take this year. However students from years 4 to 9 will be part of the netbook program next year. so I will have to face that issue next year. I dont know whether the students only use them for short spurts of time rather than extended but I shall have to ask Frank their teacher. Do you give your students a break after 50 mins or what are your standards?

  • Skeet McCracken

I'll bet we are communicating with a three D box by then. It is amazing the way technology has taken us. She has never known a place without a cell phone, television set, Movies at home, computers. It is wonderful the way we keep progressing.

Thanks, Anne.....I'm spending a lot of time exploring on this site....there's a lot here! I might have some questions as I proceed!
  • Tara

Teaching online is quite a challenge but I thoroughly enjoy it. Do you use an LMS so deliver your courses? We use eCollege, I also use wiki's and google sites to provide some collaboration. For videoconferencing we have elluminate, the students enjoy being able to meet once a week as we never see each other face to face.

I am excited to be here, there are so many people with different experiences to learn from. Thanks!!
  • Hilary Greenebaum

Thanks Anne. I will look him up! Any other ideas you have would be wonderful. I will be there for two weeks in March. It looks like you are doing some great work yourself with student blogging, word clouds etc. I need to spend more time on your page! ~ Hilary

  • Penny Christensen

    Thanks Anne.
Within our district we are considering any class with an online component of delivery or assingment completion a blended environment. Personally I see a benefit to defining blended in a stricter sense, 30-80% online and within a common delivery/completion model like a LMS. If teachers work within a stricter definition I see a greater benefit to any PD, common assessments, or just course content sharing.
