PBS Teachers and Classroom 2.0 are delighted to have PBS producers and educators join us to share P.O.V.'s The Principal Story. This film paints two dramatic portraits of the challenges facing America's public schools – and the great difference a dedicated principal can make. The film takes the viewer along for an emotional ride and examines what effective educational leadership looks like in the 21st century. Our special guests during the webinar will include: Kerry Purcell, one of the principals featured in the film; David Mrazek, one of the filmmakers; and Eliza Licht, Director of Community Engagement and Education, P.O.V./American Documentary. Speakers will discuss the making of the film, the critical work involved in transforming schools, and the wide array of high-quality educational resources available from P.O.V. Event: How do we think? Let us count the ways.
and we can discuss the purposes of this talk. Purposes • To demonstrate the diversity of the conscious awareness of thinking • To show how this diversity can be used in Education • To show how this diversity can interact with the process of education and lead to less than maximum performance and even learning disability Visual imagery is often taken for granted and we do not usually consider the diversity of the conscious experience. The first 6 questions of the survey provide a starting point to explore this diversity. Auditory imagery is less studied but the questionnaire includes a wonderful demonstration of an individual difference factor that very few have ever considered. Now with those building blocks, take a look around in your head and answer the question how do you think ? What is the conscious experience of your thought process? Words, pictures, sound? Something different? We will discuss how a simple learning task will clearly demonstrate how we use the tools of thought. Once we understand how we think, we can look at how our students think. We will apply this to questions like these: • Are learning styles important? • Does verbal repetition learning work? • Eighty-five per cent of learning disabled students think alike, while mainstream students split evenly. • What are the actual deficits in reading disability? I have started a forum located at to continue the discussion at http://www.enabling.org/drupal/thinking The talk will be held on Elluminate under the auspices of the Caribbean Education Network on August 28, 2010 at 7 PM EDT (NYC).
