About Me: I am a Burmese national currently living in the U.S. I used to teach in secondary school in Burma (currently called Myanmar by the military government). I am passionately interested in the future of my country, which is now being torn apart by rebellion against the unelected military junta, but I also am passionate about new technology in education, which I think will improve everyone's lives all over the world.

Your question is quite understandable, because there are SO MANY directions we can take this. Our purpose, or rather our many purposes, keep changing as new members are added. The same thing is true of this Classroom 2.0 group, and Ning itself.

One might say that the purpose of the World Mind Network is to get children (and really everyone) excited about learning. As in the webcam examples, it's exciting to know that people are doing things of scientific, educational, or artistic value RIGHT NOW that we can observe. It makes education much more alive.

As a species, we are just beginning to understand what it means that we seem to be turning in to one big Mega-brain.

Let's look at some specific things you could do, with our assistance. I'm just thinking aloud here; you can probably think of better things.

You could have your PHP class create a pixel site, while OTHER classes in other parts of the world who are also studying PHP could add to it, so that everyone would in effect see the site 'grow' in a living fashion. (The advantage to a pixel site is that it's all on one page, so everyone would see the same thing at once)

Your multimedia class could 'adopt' one of our partner classes in a different part of the world, and learn together. For example, we work with a group called Cards From Africa in Rwanda. They are children who have been orphaned by AIDS and genocide who make cards from recycled materials. They are looking for new designs all the time. So your multimedia students could design new cards, and also videos and websites to publicize them. This would benefit the kids in Africa, but also your students, because we would send out press releases to our publicity partners explaining what you've done.

Or you could have a webcam in your classroom, which we would be happy to provide, so you can share your teaching with the rest of the world.

These are just 3 ideas off the top of my head. Maybe you can think of others and tell me.

In addition to exploring technology in education, you might say that some of our other goals are:

world poverty
climate change
renewable energy
sustainable enterprises in the developing world

So, if any of your students are interested in these things, we'd like to know.

As you can see, there are many directions we can go. Let me know what your passions are now, and we can explore further.
