hi JD, good to hear from you. It's gratifying to have people like you showing interest. I want to learn a lot about how education, especially at the university, level will be made cheap and accessible to people in Africa. Open University is an excellent idea except that i think it is still expensive considering the fact that per annual income here is less than a thousand dollars. by like minded people i mean people who have a desire to help under-privileged people. MSIP means Mustard Seed In-House Productions and that is the name of my production company. in actual fact i am into television and film directing but my mum was a teacher and my dad was an education officer. my production company hhas developed a television show called ADULTS IN EDUCATION which we are using to educate people across the country. what we have done is to blend teaching with humor/ comedy. We have treated topics like parts of speech and have educated people on some pertinent social issues. We have finished with the first two seasons and are now looking for sponsors to start telecasting out third season. Interesting enough, television is by far the widest means of spreading info in my country. According to the world bank out out my country's population of 22 million, only about 420,000 use the internet. That is about one out of 50! Unbelievable! But i believe we will catch up
Can you tell me more about your personal development university and how we here can benefit from it? Thanks
Hello JD, thank you for writing back to me. Hm, you were very attentive in reading my profile. I started teaching early. I got my education back in Russia. I was a vice-principal of the school, taught English and arts, then was invited to teach English at the University, defended thesis in education, was elected a Dean of School of Foreign Languages. I was traveling a lot and bringing innovative ideas back to Russia. I was pioneering Montessori movement in the Southern part of Russia. I am here since 2000. I teach all my courses with technology. I enjoy exploring Web 2.0 tools, using Smart board, helping my students design e-folios, websites, wiki and blogs.
I am from Ghana and I'm just here to learn, contribute as well as link up with like-minded people who will be willing to share their experiences as well as help in spreading the concept of distance learning and adult education to Africa, which lags behind as far as education is concerned. hope to find a friend in you.
