Please find below our ideas as to the content and sequence of activities and videos we would
like to exchange. In the videos, we will have our students talk about a certain cultural issue,
with the short sentences that they are able to produce, considering their command of English.
At the end, they would launch the question “What about you?, prompting our partners to
reply with a similar video. We are also thinking of a Skype conference call.
Video 1 - Introduce yourself
Hello. We’re 5 years old. We’re 1st graders. We are from Brazil. We study at Escola
Móbile, in SP. What about you?
Conference call / Skype meeting - Getting to know one another
Students as a group are previously prepared to ask and answer questions related to
personal information (What’s your name? How old are you? Where are you from?
Where do you live? Who do you live with?) , favorite sports and food, likes and dislikes,
among other.
Video 2 - Music in Brazil
Students “show and tell” about Brazilian music, musical instruments and dances.
This is frevo. This is square dance.
This is a cuica.
Video 3 - Describing São Paulo
Students show pictures of São Paulo and make comments about the city and the area
where they live.
Video 4 - Do you live in a house or in an apartment?
Students show the results of their survey on a graph.
Video 5 - Our school
Students say how they commute, and talk about wearing uniforms to school, having
lunch at school, their favorite school subject, their school shift, their classroom, and
also about projects they are working on (the Beatles and space projects).
Video 6 - Brazilian food
Students “show and tell” about some typical Brazilian dishes, snacks and desserts -
Brigadeiro, tapioca, suco de umbu, feijoada, pinhão, farofa, pastel, mandioca, coxinha.
Our course runs from February to December, so we’ll have the same groups in the second
semester, with vacations in July. This will be a year-long project, with videos being produced
and exchanged from time to time.
At the end of April, we’ll probably be able to send you Videos 1 and 2.
In the beginning of May, we would be ready to schedule the conference call . If we find out
there are any difficulties in scheduling the Skype session, we can think of other forms of
exchange to the “get to know each other” activity.
If you are representing a commercial entity, please see the specific guidelines on your participation.
