I'm a graduate student working on my Master's thesis and teaching Intro Popular Culture classes. Also waiting to hear back from PhD programs, but so far that has not been going so hot :)
My interests include representations through the media, youth culture, media literacy, and television.

Good luck on your doctoral programs. I had the same thing happen to me one year (waiting lists) and I ended up having to re-apply the following year. But it all worked out in the end...
If you're interested in media literacy, I highly recommend you join NAMLE, once you are a member join the "Graduate Caucus", and if you can, attend the NAMLE conference in August in Detroit. All the key players in media literacy are at that conference, so it's a good place to meet people and get involved (and it's not a massively large overwhelming conference).
Katie, did you apply to the Mass Media and Communication program at Temple University? If you're looking at PhD programs in media literacy, it's a great place to go.
