After viewing the videos and reading the article, I've decided that I'm a Digital Native. I grew up with a computer in my house, with internet access, with an iPod, with a cell phone. The section on your "accent" really helped me see that I'm a native in the digital world. The video A Vision of Students Today also showed me students that work like me - they multitask. I think if I added up the time I spent online, watching TV, studying, on my phone, etc etc it'd add up to much more than 24 hours in a day. All of this means that I understand how my students work best. It's how I like to work, too! I really took away some good ideas about how to create online games around my content. I have a Jeopardy template that I use often, but now I think I'm going to ask my principal to splurge on the classroom set of buzzers for me - way more fun! I also thought the second article was amazing and it inspired me to get my teammates blogging. I have a blog and it would be so cool if all of us were linked up and parents could get our RSS feeds and stay updated. These articles also made me a little frustrated because a lot of the Digital Immigrants I work with don't realize how thick their "accents" are and don't have the desire to learn how to speak like a Native. Hopefully I can find a way to break through to them. I think sharing the first article with them is a great first step!
