Despite my reassurances that nothing could be posted without prior approval- the district never eased up. Now the teachers have access to blogs again, but no student computers may access them. Furthermore, when I tried to officially use Twitter in the classroom, it was shot down as faddish.Right now, Wiggio is approved for use, but nothing else. Sooo... long story short, I am pessimistic about being able to utilize them.

I've been using various tools in unofficial means when working in industry in the past few years so trying to get it a bit more structured for use in a school due to so many different classes (it was easy to manage when only involving a team!). I can only imagine how useful it could be.

Our project employs many diagnostic assessments that help us paint a picture of our students and identify his or her strengths and weaknesses. From here, interventions are planned (some using technology, some not) that are aligned with the teacher goals as well as being on the student's instructional level. We use many websites that provide leveled texts (timeforkids.com is a good one) but it is specific to the content being taught. Diigo is a great tool for students to use that allows them to highlight and mark up text from sites that they're reading.
So...short answer - it varies. It's really all about the goal and the type of intervention needed. Check out my wiki page for some sites we frequently use!
