Hello Stacy. Thanks for the invite. I am actually the English teacher of 6 grade elementary at Gutenberg Schule in Ecuador and I am also an undergraduate student at Linguistic applied to English career. Two years ago, I started a project with the students of 6th and 7th grades using Facebook to improve the writing skills. As Facebook is a massive communication tool and students prefer this social network rather than any blog. I started discussion forums using Sience as a motivation tool to get my students write. In my country, the unique English learning environment is the classroom and the English input is very limited. Of course, students listen to music, watch videos and play videogames in English but teachers don't take advantage of these resources at all. Besides, the learning-teaching process still pursues Grammar domain instead of the development of communicative skills. Even though our new education curriculum emphasizes the development of skills, some school principals do not trust in it at all and book completion primes. Anyway, Ecuadorian English teachers want to improve English teaching and I don't know if there are others from my country who have joined this site, I want to make the difference. So, I'd like you to visit my Facebook page (Angela Bonilla) then I can add you to the group I created for students and you can see their progress. It would be really helpful any observation you can make.
Thanks for the invite Stacey. I was in the department of curriculum and instruction at Tarleton State University for 12 years. Recently retired to pursue other goals. I've taught TK-6 preservice and inservice teachers for 20 years. My specialty is designing curriculum and instruction based on best practice. I would like to focus on public schools in the future. Where are you a principal?
