About Me: I've been the technology director at Cranbrook Schools for the past 20 years. Prior to that I've worked as a programmer for a couple of software companies in the Boston area and another independent school, teaching BASIC first on a DEC PDP-11/03 and then on Apple II computers.

Over the years, I have participated in the many stages of using technology in education. First, using technology as an add-on to learning and then the "integration" phase. I believe that we are in the third phase, where the focus is shifting from technology to curricular innovation, taking advantage of brain and other learning research, and identifying the knowledge and skills that students will need to lead productive lives. In this phase, the spotlight is shifting from a focus on technology, to good teaching with the understanding that good teaching requires skilled use of the best tools. (Just like any other profession!)
