About Me
I am a former high school English teacher who now teaches people who want to be English teachers at Kent State University. My research interest is how new literacies are transforming the English/language arts classroom.

Missed you at the Data Dialogue meeting. Pretty intense. Lots of discussion on performance based assessments.

thanks for your reply! too bad book not coming out sooner, I will see if I can find some more recent articles you have published! I checked your blog and didn't really see any publications listed, though I found some on your vita that look great but say "in press"... (this is like what happened to me with MacArthur series, I suppose it's not "new" for nothing).
(btw I actually do not teach k12 now, I work with teachers)
thanks again

Hi Bill, Amazon recommended your book to me today.... a little late since I just finished my comprehensive exams (my major paper was in the area of youth practices and potential for school based activity using the tools and platforms of networked publics (Ito, 2008))
I am a grad student at the Univ of AZ - Language Reading and Culture (my advisor is Luis Moll) and my interests (and experience also) are similar to yours but my focus is working with science teachers / classrooms (I am not a scientist but I have worked within that community for a while). I am about to start working on my dissertation proposal and it would be interesting to chat more with you....
I may have a chance to work broadly with teachers in a school district that could really use some support in terms of using technologies for the types of literacies you discuss.
Glad to see you are working in this area, and too bad I didn't discover you earlier :)

Hey William,

Our Brainyflix video contest just ended, and I wanted to thank you for helping us get the word out. We got 800 submissions from across the country!

That said, MIT was really happy with the results and will let us run another contest, so we're going for it! But this time, we're gonna have kids create Brainypics flashcards - which are images and sentences paired up with a one of our SAT/ACT words. The contest ends May 22nd, and there'll be iTunes and a cash prize like last time. To boot, we'll double the payout if the kids can hit a certain goal. More details at brainyflix.com/main/contest_rules.

Do you mind passing my message along to students and your colleagues again?

Thanks,
Jack
