Student screencasting

In a previous post I mentioned how I stumbled upon 2 science teachers in Colorado who provide their students with screencasts of course material. Inspired by their success I began using CamStudio to create screencasts where I modeled how to solve chemistry word problems. I have a LaPazz pen tablet that allows me to write on my computer desktop and in microsoft programs like Word and Powerpoint. I posted the screencasts on Youtube so that my students… Continue

Making a case for Nings

I'm trying to learn more about using Nings. I have teachers who are using wikis and blogs, but there are a few who may benefit from platform that combines all of these functions. Any recommendations for articles or how-tos?

To solve employee problem who loses job during recession period Education Activities INC lunches Getting a Job or Keeping Your Job DVD.

Times are hard-hitting in late 2008 and likely to get tougher. Regardless of the financial bailout and some likely federal support for the every industry. It was a fun ride but we've lived beyond our means for quite some time, and now it's time to start paying off some of that debt.

As the economy slows, firms will be taking into consideration several methods to reduce costs: cut raw material and sourcing costs, cut labour costs, cut advertising, marketing and sales costs, or perhaps… Continue

Differentiated Instruction Continued

For the student project, we took pictures from http://www.fastplants.org/, classroom photos, and scanned student drawing that we included into PowerPoint presentation. Then we saved each slide as a jpeg and uploaded these pictures into Photostory 3. The student then read her journal notes with each slide. This was created into a movie that she will show to her third grade class.

Use of Bolgs

After hearing about blogs through the media, I now have opportunity to actually experience with it for myself. In the past I thought blogging was meaningless talk however, I am now realizing that it can be very informative and serve as a great connecting tool. Classrooms can benefit greatly from its use. Information can be shared, people connected and learning beyond our expectation takes place. I think all teachers should educate themselves on it and other internet tools so they are able to… Continue

Teach Lifes Lessons part 3

TEACH LIFE LESSONS – LESSON 3

WHAT IS A GOOD JOB?

I asked my students this question when I taught at Atlanta Technical Institute.

The answers I received were $10.00 an hour, $15.00 and hour and $18.00 an hour.

The answers were all about an hourly wage that was going to be earned.

My reply to my class was this.

Item 1: A good job with respect to wage involves the letter K that is regarding salary.

Openness and Social Networking

I wish to share my recent presentation about openness in social networking, business communications and cloud computing. The presentation and a more detailed discussion paper are an appeal for more openness, which I justify by exploration of a variety of online services, and by drawing attention of the adverse consequences of a lack of openness. The Powerpoint presentation is on Slideshare.net for anyone who is… Continue

Podcasting for Beginners

Hi all,

I know that so many of you podcast and so I am going to the experts. I need a few resources that will help me learn how to podcast with my Grade 4 students. It was one of the goals I set for myself this year and it is the only one that I have not done. I honestly don't know where to start and I know there are great resources out there. I guess what I need is a sort of "Podcasting for Dummies". I have learned much over the years from the "..for Dummies" books.

I… Continue
