Since learning to speak a language myself, I've valued the role of languages in schools. One of the most life-changing periods of my life was when I went to live in the city of Perugia as a part of my PhD studies in 2000-2001. Immersed in Italian language, I went from knowing a few words to becoming close to fluent in three months. It was an astonishing transformation, one…

What could these three diverse places, a small town in country Australia, a large international city in China, and a mountainous state the US, possibly have in common?
I must say, when I started dipping my toes into the global education water, I had my doubts. It’s not that I thought global education wasn’t worthwhile… I thought of it as a “nice to have” rather than an essential part of my classroom. Like the best discoveries in life, the benefits of connecting globally have revealed…

A veces, reunimos…

About two weeks ago I used a computer type video "game" called Driver-Zed 3.0.............It is a driving simulator program that you do right on your computer screen. This program is very real, enjoyable and as close to the real thing as I have seen with out being in a car or those expensive simulators.
I only had a few copies of the program so my school's IT guy put the program on the schools shared drive. From there I could have my classes access the program. I had my…

I just finished with another great recording. This one featured Letia Cooper, who shared 100+ STEM Web Resources, and Barbara Tallent, who discussed LiveBinders. I was glad to begin to learn about LiveBinders, because I had heard of them, but didn't really know a thing about them. Barbara Tallent discussed the various ways you can search - by clicking on author's name, searching shelves, searching the education binders on the right, or through Google. It was very helpful to see the tips…

I just watched and listened to a Classroom 2.0 recording of Linda Yollis, a blogger and teacher with 25 years of experience. She has integrated technology into her classroom using blogs. Her students blog with each other, their parents, and students across the world. She made it seem so easy, starting before the first day with an email to her students to watch a YouTube welcome video. Along with her students, she gave the steps on how to write a quality comment. She integrates language…
