Using Microblogs

I have had the chance to explore some really neat Web 2.0 tools in a class that I am taking that I didn't even know existed. I found out a about a microblog called Today's Meet while exploring Curriculum21 Clearinghouse that I thought I would share. I watched the following podcast and was hooked: http://www.curriculum21.com/?s=Today%27s+Meet. Today's Meet is a…

How hard is it to teach abroad?

Hi there I am a student at Johnson University, in the teacher education program. My focus is elementary (K-6) and ESL (English as a second language for k-12) I love to travel abroad and see new places. I would love to be able to teach abroad once I am done with school. I don't have a specific country that i want to teach in, but in general how hard is it to teach in other countries? Is there a lot of paperwork and hoops to jump through? or is it pretty much a smooth process? If anyone has any… Continue

Digital Citizenship

When working on creating policies that addressed the nine components of digital citizenship, there were a lot of things that I knew about as a parent, but never really considered as an educator. I mean, we all talk about the need to use proper etiquette and other obvious items in the classroom and beyond, but I don’t think I have ever thought about addressing health and wellness as it relates to students’ use of technology. I guess this is because each child is very different when it comes…

Social Networking

This week provided me the opportunity to explore social networking sites that I can use in the classroom.  I also had the opportunity to look at how to prepare students to be digital citizens and the importance of emphasizing digital citizenship ideals.  After this week I have discovered that I have barely scratched the surface of using social networking in the classroom.  Today, I use tools such as Pandora, Google Sites, and YouTube.  After exploring…

Classroom Social Networking and Digital Citizenship

This week we have discussed social networking in the classroom as well as digital citizenship.  From this week’s lesson there are some things that I learned, some things that have been clarified and some things that I would like to pursue to learn more.

One of the main focuses this week was digital citizenship.  Before this week I had heard of digital citizenship, but never really understood exactly what it meant.  I now know that digital citizenship is considered, “the norms of…

Blogging About Social Networking & Digital Citizenship:

After completing week 4 of my Master’s class on Social Networking and Digital Citizenship I have discovered several new technologies and lesson ideas that I’d like to pursue.  One of my colleagues and I also created a Digital Citizenship Policy that I will use and share in my classroom when teaching digital citizenship and especially when expanding our connections to the outside world.

One of the new technologies I’d like to pursue and find out more about ways to integrate…

Social Networking & Digital Citizenship in Schools

While I am a pretty technologically savvy teacher and have used many tools with my students in class to help them learn, there still are so many great options to learn about.  This week I immersed myself into the arena of social networking and how to implement it effectively in the classroom.  I was pleasantly surprised to find so many great reasons to consider adding these options to my teaching arsenal.

What have I…

knoope_LT4_Activity 7_Social networking and Digital Citizenship

This week’s research focus on the subjects of Social Networking and Digital Citizenship has uncovered a few realizations regarding my use of tech tools that I need to implement immediately.

After discussing our district AUP with my assistant principal and my concerns that our students do not sign the document annually, she was able to clarify a few things for me. First, students sign the AUP as incoming freshmen or new incoming students. When the district revises the document, all…

Writing Prompts

Having been in many different types of English classes I have experienced many different types of writing prompts. I have had writing prompts that are in the form of a statement, (http://www.writersdigest.com/prompts) a picture, or a song. I am currently in school to be a teacher and English is one of the subjects I would like to specialize in. I was curious as to whether anyone has any other types of writing prompts that they have used and how… Continue
