update

This blog has been stagnant for awhile so I decided I'd better update it. I was reminded to do this after a few students decided to Google me while we were in the computer lab. I was actually a bit embarrassed that they would see out of date information. Thankfully, I try to keep my online presence middle school appropriate.

A Lesson on Learning

I have a grandson (actually, three grandsons and three granddaughters, but I digress already...) Grandson in the middle attends school in a large city district in another state. He called his Grandpa and me last Friday night on his own initiative; I don’t think his parents even know that he called us. He was just missing us, he said.

During the conversation, of course I had to ask how school was going. The boy just sighed. “It’s OK, but it’s getting hard. We’re practicing for the… Continue

Results of Twitter Poll "If you could change your job title, what would it be?"

Yesterday, @eduinnovation and I were discussing the idea of changing job titles on Twitter. As a result of that discussion, I posted the question: “If you could change your job title, what would it be?” as a Twitter poll. The following are responses that were given. No requirements on job title were given. Below are the responses from all who participated. I enjoyed reading and contemplating the ideas behind each… Continue

http://mshsncc.blogspot.com/

Hi everyone!
This is my favourite blog coz NCC is my passion. NCC stands for National Cadet Corps, which is an activity in the Co-Curricular Programme in my school. Students sign up to be in this activity and the commitment is for four years in a secondary school education. The blog gives information on the activities and training programme the students go through weekly.

Another update on Cell Phone Use

In an attempt to help students prepare for college I did not provide them with a study guide. Instead I created points in the lesson where we stopped and discuss what would be good questions over the material covered. About the third day I used polleverywhere.com and simply ask students to text me questions. Then I open the screen on the projector so as the questions came in the class as a whole would answer them.

I saw several benefits here. 1) Students got to share what they… Continue

Edubloggercon - WEST at CUE & Edublogger Meetup at CLMS

Every year at the National Educational Computing Conference (NECC), a group of educational bloggers (or edubloggers) gathers for a full day "unconference" where the sessions and topics are decided by the participants. It's an exciting and high-energy social learning experience.

A west coast version of the edubloggercon takes place each year at the CUE conference in Palm Springs. Steve Hargadon, Jen Wagner, and I have begun talking about planning the event. Please add your name to the… Continue

Clickers and Mobi

We have started to invest in student response clicker systems. The CPS clickers by Interwrite have come to the top our list. It is plug and play rf system and they integrate with Examview (which they own). We have some Interwrite interactive white boards, which are great, and some Interwrite Pads. I absolutely love the clickers. If I was back in the classroom, this would be a piece of technology that I would have to have. The ability to formative assess and track progress is a very valuable… Continue

Nowadays high quality and low cost training of new technology is what enterprises looking for.

Remember when things were simple because Futlz won't let me use "Blast From The Past"

Tonight Mr. E made me recall technology that I used while growing up. The first thing that came to my mind was the good old Gameboy by Nitendo. I remember that I received the handheld gaming device as a birthday gift. I want to say that it was my sixth birthday. At the time, it was the coolest, new toy to have, mainly because you could play a game and move from place to place. I believe the Gameboy was the first game system to go portable. Besides the Gameboy, I also received the game… Continue

Budget Cuts and Technology

Like many districts everywhere we are in the midst of a budget reduction, 9.3 million this year and about the same again next year. We are actively pursuing alternate ways to train teachers that don't require face to face or time out of the classroom. We have Blackboard and that works well but we are also looking for a low cost (free is really what we need) way of video conferencing with a small groups of teachers. I tried out Dimdim today with some success and some failure. The desktop sharing… Continue

Obama in Indiana

I've just posted a new set of discussion starters about President Obama's trip to Indiana yesterday. Here it is:

The Washington Post is running an article entitled, “Obama Returns to

Campaign Tactics to Push Stimulus Bill.” The article begins,

“President Obama took his campaign for a massive new economic

stimulus package to this hard-hit corner of Indiana Monday and urged

Congress to pass a bill ‘immediately’ to avoid the prospect of a

‘deepening disaster.’”… Continue
