If any of you use or interested in using the Lego Mindstorms NXT, I recently made a Web Quest to use in the classroom. It includes printable handouts that can be used in the activity, as well as lots of resources on getting started.
I found this article on copyright issues very interesting because it is so true that even as educators we sometimes forget when working on video projects or any projects for that matter about copyrights and getting permission to use such items. What this article referred to putting in music to enhance video projects yet most people do not obtain proper permission for its use. I think many people hide behind the fact that it is being used for educational purposes but as it states in the article… Continue
We have just added a new product to our website: a wall calendar for the 2009/10 School Year. The calendar is filled with pictures from the southern estates of Mexico: Chiapas and Yucatán. It also contains the most important public holidays of every Spanish Speaking country. You can see sample of the calendar in our website: www.bablingua.com

I wrote this as my students were writing their own songs. I also wanted to experiment to see how far the song might travel along various networks, so feel free to pass the link along through your networks.

Today I am thinking about how I feel in long meetings that don't really relate to what I want to know. I'm thinking about that "glazed-over" look that comes to my eyes and brain. I see this reflected often in my students. They get that same "glazed-over" look. They are not interested in long presentations. This is not to say that I am a "bad" teacher. My students this year indicated that… Continue
The common problem with getting students to turn to dictionaries or similar tools to verify spelling, pronunciation, or simply learn the meaning of a word, is the basic limitations of the experience. When a generation that has grown up participating in and / or leading the creation of narrative online (via their social networks and blogs) is faced with a non-to-low interactive and non-social experience, we can easily predict the outcome: boredom and disinterest, and they will only do it if… Continue

I was assigned to a new school. On my first day the principal said. “I have heard of you, you like to take the students on field trips, there will be no field trips at this school.” I have never met the principal before, but his comments did not affect me whatsoever.
My concern is how can I best educate my students? I knew that the lecture method is the technique that is least likely to achieve the results I wanted. I was guilty of the… Continue

I was emailed over the weekend by a year 6 teacher who wanted some ideas for using ICT with his class, and in particular for literacy.

This will be my first trip to NECC, but I've attended other conferences in the past. Good times and a wealth of learning opportunities.
Here are a few tips to share for your conference…Continue
If anyone has any quick tips for using technology in the FL classroom, please let me know. So far, I have used only PPT and I know that is hopelessly outdated. I would like to use Ipods. Has anyone done a podcast? Have the students responded well to this method?
