Oldest living concentration camp survivor speaking in Moorepark, Ca

If Abraham Lincoln lived to be 103, he would have died in 1912. Leopold Engleitner turned 7 that year. Next Friday and Saturday at Moorepark College, Herr Engleitner will recount the nightmare visited upon him from 1939 to 1943, during the Nazi occupation of Austria. For the crime of becoming a Jehovah's Witness, Leopold spent those years in three concentration camps.

In promotion of the book and film, both entitled "Unbroken Will", the Moorepark College presentation will be streamed… Continue

5 Reasons Why Educators Need To Embrace Internet Technologies

In April I wrote a post about 10 internet technologies that educators should be informed about. This quickly became my most read posting. I included some references in this article to why educators should be aware of and informed about these tools, but most of those comments were really about why each specific technology was included in the list, as opposed to why, in a more… Continue

Flat World Editorial

My "flat world " editorial was published in the Berkshire Eagle May 17, 2009--http://is.gd/AGny with book recommendations. Probably redundant for many Classroom 2.0 folks but huge in my local scene. Many don't even "get" what I'm talking about. Long roads to travel here.

BTW, that's become my focus: Acting locally while thinking Globally. I'm calling it GLOCAL EDUCATION.

My new image

For some time now I've been reflecting on my identity. One's identity is formed through interactions between one's nature, roles and environments. In other words, it's rather complicated, and simplifying it in order to make it manageable is a formidable task indeed. The image you see here is my latest attempt to accomplish this task. The image consists of 3 major L-shaped brush strokes. They represent three words describing my approach to life: Loving, Laughing and Learning. The… Continue

It's learning stole my Saturday

I usually have my students record their English homework on it's learning. There's a record function in the text editor, and it is excellent. But, here I am - listening to my students read their English homwork on a Saturday! And, I'm enjoying it!

So, it has freed up more time in class to do other things besides hearing them read to me, but it has stolen my Saturdays! And I think that's ok!

Web 2.0 Conference Reflections: CR20Sac2009

If you are considering attending one of the Classroom 2.0 workshops in your area, this post will give you an idea about what it is like.

The first of the 2-day conference began with introductions and a few rules of the loosely structured format. Steve shared the "rule of two feet," commenting that anyone could get up and leave if this wasn't what they were looking for. The first day was interesting, but it was the afternoon session and… Continue

creative art networks for your school / college or university

Hello my name is Jonathan, I have set up a site called mywdot.com. I am hoping that it will become the facebook for creative people.

One advantage of mywdot.com is that I can create mini networks for schools and societies to display the work of their students. Therefore in effect giving the school their own creative network.

I have created a sample school network with 4 sample students at:

mywdot.com/network/yourschoolcollegeuniversity

mywdot is completely free for you and… Continue

What will my page look like in 2010? What will I accomplish/use in my classroom in 2010?

I joined this site to learn how to use technology in the classroom. My computer skills are decent, but I haven't executed any real digital learning as a teacher, yet.

2 years ago I bought a macbook and have been taking one to one classes at the Apple Store regularly ever since. I've dabbled with: imovie, idvd, garageband, ical, itunes, iweb, safari, mail, mobileme, keynote,… Continue

Higher Education from US universities and Colleges – My First Hand Experience

Higher Education in the present scenario, when world is facing brunt of recession, is turning out to be best option for majority of the students either at undergraduate level or graduate level. This piece of writing is aimed at helping those students who are planning to go for higher education abroad (specifically US universities and Colleges). Participatory Media Rights in Education Now!

Participatory Media Rights in Education Now!

I get sick to my stomach every time I hear of a school banning Twitter. I feel even worse for teachers and students who have never had the opportunity to use Twitter in the classroom.

I've spent the past week live blogging what I think are very successful uses of Twitter in class. I dare any administrator to visit my Twitter-enhanced Latin classes and then tell me social media has no place in a school building.

I wish… Continue
