Actually today is a fine day, even with the rain.
My question is "What is cyberinfrastructure really?"

Reports are finished so now it's time to get organised for the coming year. We have a lease expiring and I have to order new computers to replace the old lease. We have decide to go to laptops in our upper grades. This should be exciting as it will free up space on the benches where the computers are now located but it will allow for the children to collaborate in their classrooms and at different spots around the school. I am also going to order some netbooks for use in classrooms around the…

Title aside, I'm just wrapping up administrivia for the teaching year. I am awash in a sea of paper. It's all over my desk, littering my other desk, stacked on my equipment table, scattered over the lab benches, stuffed into envelopes and piled high in file boxes. I feel like we should have a pulp and paper mill at the back of the playing fields, just to keep the school supplied with forms and test papers and timetables and calendar dates and process reminders and leaving forms and testimonial…

In reference to
this post.
Two things:
1. i really love this guy's art.
2. i am really trying to get some feedback from people who write.
we are doing a pretty comprehensive set of action research projects all under the heading of:
what are the characteristics of online writing?
how do the characteristics of student writing change when they write online as…

I am interested in incorporating blogging into my third grade classroom. I have a million ideas, but am not sure where to start. I also want to begin small at first. Suggestions? Ideas?

It's odd to me that we spend a day giving thanks for what is precious, and then the very next morning our culture is all set up for Black Friday (which sounds grim even though I guess it's not meant to be)....where we are all meant to rush out as early as we can and as maniacally as we can to BUY things. So we were grateful for one day, for all those intangibles, but then the very next day this American culture is telling us: better get ready to WANT all the things you don't have, that you wish…

Check out
Drawminos (http://drawminos.com) for some good ole fashion 5 year old type fun. The name really over delivers in cleverness but I still lost several minutes to this almost engaging activity and my son loves it.
And what is it that has me losing lots of time (I mean doing serious time in the name of online 'research?'). Visit
Zoopz (http:zoopz.com) and tell me how to get…

I'd love to begin a movement that would culminate in the spring called the Book the Time Campaign: getting as many people as we can to read aloud to a child or many children. Then we could have one day, in March or April, that is the culmination of those efforts, with lots of celebration for the importance of reading aloud in a child's life. Would anyone be interested in joining in and figuring out how to make this happen? I love the idea of it being worldwide!!! I could ask my wonderful…

Help E-retailers Capture Dollars on Cyber Monday
Story from
DMO Blog:
As this time of year is make it or break it for many retailers, now is the last chance to prepare for the busy period. E-retailers are ramping up heavy-duty deals to turn skittish shoppers into buyers during the crucial Thanksgiving weekend and "Cyber Monday" -- but even so, online sales are expected to be fairly flat after…

This past summer, I traveled to Kenya and Liberia on behalf of my organization, LitWorld, to share teaching ideas and practices with teachers there. It was a deeply moving journey and I was honored to spend time with the teachers there (some class ratios: 120 kids to ONE teacher!). They are heroic for doing their work in such extreme conditions. We brought with us a software called Realebooks which gets kids publishing their own stories online. Now, schools here are sending kidmade books to…

I reviewed the technology survey I gave to the students two weeks into the school year today. I tabulated the data for the second survey and wanted to look back at the first survey. The survey asks the students to rate the use of technology as a tool for different levels of learning and thinking, computer applications used at school, and level of engagement when using technology at school. The computer applications used the most are Word, Excel and Powerpoint, but students are interested in…

I am interested in setting an electrical bicycle such as a regular racing bicycle with electric attachment. Interested in any info on this.
Two reasons for this: I am interested in environmentally efficient transport, and secondly my car was stolen this morning.
I would like to ride to work but 15 K is a little to far. Electric assistance could be the answer.
