Recently I had the opportunity to spend 45 minutes addressing the 10th and 11th grade students at Estill County High School in Irvine, Kentucky. The topic of my address was Does Your Brain Lie to You (and do you believe it)? I thought that some of the ideas from that address might be ideas that teachers… Continue

As many of you know, I develop digital resources for the secondary classroom.
Two years ago we developed a transition to 9 program that we called tt9. The resource was centered around literacy activities (short articles, vocabulary building, blogging and journal writing) with each activity centered around issues that students face as they transition to high school (responsibility, time management, meeting new friends etc.).
With the ipad now on the market we will see some serious competition and innovation for a book reader/computer that will actually be useful to educators and students. The purpose of this post is to simply gather information about eReaders that will work in schools. Since Apple has made billions in the consumer market it is unlikely that we will see a suitable product from them for education. Let's get right to it: most designs for classroom technology are based on a 20-year old paradigm of furniture, cables and pipes (and lots of equipment). While continuing to replicate these dinosaurs may serve to ensure job security (for now), this
model requires heavy infrastructure that
adds cost and locks the room into a rigid floorplan that does not support
progressive teaching and learning practice.
I'm flying toward Arizona and the AzTea WoW conference where I'll be
speaking to administrators this evening about school leadership in the
21st century. It sounds generic but I consider this a sacred
opportunity. I know the importance of school leadership and I
understand the power that comes from administrators having a vision for
positive change. I want to seize this and every opportunity like it to
inspire or re-inspire these people to take the helm of their… Continue
