Childhood Obesity!
This is a very popular subject now.....BUT, I have visited many schools this past year, and don't recall seeing a large nimber of overweight or obese students in the classes or in the halls. In fact, I cannot remember seeing one pudgy kid!
Do you think that this is a regional or income related issue?
I visit schools in New Jersey, most have been in middle class neighborhoods, with a good mix of incomes and ethnic…

With only one month to go for the AIEEE 2010 exams students are fretting, burning the midnight oil night after night. It won’t be long before the D day comes and it will be time for students to perform, using everything that they have learnt through the months of preparing for the AIEEE 2010.
Just a day of relief and fidgety students will spring back into action the next day of the AIEEE exams searching for AIEEE solutions &…

From the "Did You Know" video, I learned the power of collaboration is not limited to educators in the educational process. Our students must be able to collaborate with their classmates as well as students of other countries. This global network is one in which our students must become proficient. As educators we seek to keep things in a more controlled environment. We eliminate the useage of cell phones in our buildings and prohibit access to servers from handheld…

I am gathering ideas to share with an elementary school in Waltham, MA. They have a writing initiative and they are looking for good ideas for students (K-5) to publish their writing so that the writing is meaningful and purposeful. I have been gathering websites and examples and posting here:…

I must admit that I find Shirky’s book fascinating and find myself quoting or mentioning it in conversation, or even worse, interrupting my husband to read an excerpt to him. The author brings up some interesting points, as many have mentioned, including the issues surrounding the theft of the cell phone. I particularly found it interesting to take note of the schematic drawings in chapter two of…

The competition faced by MBA aspirants every year from their counterparts is not an easy hurdle to cross. It might easily happen that an individual not lacking in potential may be unable to find a place in any of the reputed MBA Colleges in India. Many think this juncture to be an end of all possibilities. However, that is not the case with MBA courses available to students in modes namely, symbiosis distance learning MBA and…

I think Shirky's use of Ivanna's phone story brings up interesting ethical and relational questions. He notes, "the willingness of humans to feel wronged is infinite. Do we want a world where, whenever someone with this kind of leverage gets riled up, they can unilaterally reset the priorities of the local police department?" We know some of our students can quickly feel an injustice has occurred (maybe a lower grade than expected, or a not making a team) and feel passionate about righting…

The opportunities for web 2.0 software is unlimited. The program that I chose to experiment with was Wordle. This is a very fun program where you copy and paste text or type your own and the the program takes the words and creates art with the words. Whatever word is used the most in the text will appear the biggeest in thee word cluster. In the picture above, I used the song "You Never Let Go" by Matt Redman. As you can see, never let go.…
