Session notes: Constructivist Teaching with Technology: Learning with Laptops

Karl Fisch, Arapahoe High School with Brian Hatak, Brad Meyer, Anne Smith and Barbara Stahlhut

Three high school classes received laptops to use in their classrooms.

Students did not take the laptops home.

AP Government class showed significant improvement on AP test scores after one year.

Learning history by making comics

I have always using picturing myself in my learning process. When I was 17 year I made an 100 pages study about the Nez Percé - indians lifestyle and history, as a special project. I never learned more about history, english and how to rule a project. But my degree became worse.

A week into my mid year break and a week away from the SFD sessions I will be conducting for Primary Teachers at my high school.

Who wouldn't want my job?

I spoke to a nice young lady this week who seemed like she would be qualified to replace me at my old job. She'd been a teacher for a few years and she had previous experience in the tech field. My former principal thought it would be more effective if I would show this candidate around and explain what it's like to be a tech coordinator. I know this is going to sound like a plug and I suppose it is, but apart from having just registered at the site, I have no connection with them.

At http://dotsub.com members upload videos, which can then have subtitles added to them in other languages.

The subtitles are also created by members of the site. The tool used for doing this is very simple and easy to use.

Traveling Abroad

I look forward to the time that I can travel across the ocean again to learn more about different cultures and educational perspectives!! London and Barcelona were very inspiring on a variety of different levels.
