For over ten years I have had an interesting and fulfilling job as a business instructor at a trade school for young adults. Instructors are not given pre-fabricated curriculum or told what training materials are to be used. It is a wonderful sense of freedom to be creative and manipulate the material to fit the individual student's needs. Seeing them succeed is the greatest reward one could desire.
We are given a document listing the required skills and knowledge that the students…

So I am a newbie, signed up for Classroom 2.0 as part of a class assignment. I am excited to see how other educators are using 2.0 tools in their classrooms, and I look forward to collaborating online. This is my first year as an elementary school librarian and I am always looking for ideas for lesson plans and activities, and how to integrate technology into the curriculum. So I would love to know what people are up to, and I will definitely bring my questions to Classroom 2.0!

Hello! I am a middle school mathematics teacher in McMinnville, Oregon. I am currently attending Western Oregon University and working on my M.S.Ed. degree in Information Technology. I am joining this site as part of an assignment, but also hope to use it to become connected with more math teachers and to gain access to more technology resources.
I am especially interested in using technology as a resource to individualize, extend, and strengthen student learning in mathematics. Is… Continue

I experienced two very important things recently:
1) - If you ask, you shall receive...
Last week I asked 5 students to answer 5 questions related to
education. The questions have nothing to do with my class content, nor
will the students receive anything for completing the 5 questions. I
simply asked 5 of my students to give me their opinion and feedback on
certain education related issues. The…

If somebody asked me about the last 6 months of my life, I would respond
by saying something like this; the past 6 months have been extremely
challenging, but yet at the same time I can say with little hesitation
that I have grown more as an educator in the last 6 months than in any
other time period in my life.
The world in which we live is changing faster than anyone could ever
imagine, and because of this the educational system must evolve and…

I am excited to have been introduced to this website. I am looking forward to connecting with a bunch of like minded individuals and groups on this forum. I am taking a Web 2.0 class at Western Oregon University and hope this site will add to the already numerous tools and skills I have already picked up along the journey. Classroom 2.0, thank you for being here!

Hi everyone,
I'm in grad school and am in a class that is all about Web 2.0. We are studying social networks this week. It has really got me thinking about social networking and schools, which was the point :). I can see the benefits and pit falls of using social networking in a classroom. I was wondering if anyone on here has incorporated social networks into their classroom. If so how did it work? Good Bad. Even if you haven't tried do you think that social networks in schools should be…

Being in a class that is designed to expose me to as many of the Web 2.0 tools that are out there available to assist in education has been a bit overwhelming. I’ve never run my own classroom and am not sure whether I would be very good at it. But I can say that many of the available tools could definitely help get me organized.
I’ve been involved with repairing both software and…

Hello,
I am currently participating in a social networking study group. Our first assignment in this group is to explore "free" internet blogs. What blogs would you recommend for elementary as well as middle school/high school students? What kinds of curriculum integration activities have you done with a blog?
Thanks for your help.

Movie production in the classroom can be a scary thing for many teachers, and to be honest, I have seldom done a video project with students where I was in total control. There is always something that I didn’t know or think about. However, I have done enough projects now to have some idea of what to expect. Having certain tools handy will certainly make the whole process run smoother, making those bumps that
do come up seem much…

Please allow me to first introduce myself. My name is Greg Limperis and I am a Technology Facilitator in the city of Lawrence, MA working with very inner city middle school students. As most of you teachers feel, the work day is busy and hard and resources are tight. Because of this, I have often felt that I do not get the appropriate or enough professional development to help me do my job well. With this in mind, a few years ago, I decided to turn to the best resource I had, my…

I just came home from the movies. In the film I saw (The Kids Are Alright), one character when asked why he dropped out of school says, "I just thought it was a big waste of money for something I could learn myself, from a book."
This was something I had realized early, sitting in the town library one "PD" or professional development day, years ago in grade 8. I was flipping through a National Geographic and chanced upon an article about Jane Goodall. I was stoked, we had…

Einstein said ‘Never memorize what you can look up in books’, so why do we focus so much on what we learn as opposed to how we learn? I don’t believe that the objective of education should be the memorization of facts. Instead it should be focused on the acquisition
of useful skills.
In effect I believe…

Since it's midterms time for college students, I decided to find out what everyone thinks. Currently I have many friends who are stressed out and tired from studying for tests. I cannot necessarily relate because for the most part my midterms are writing papers. Personally, they both have their pros and cons. I feel that I retain information better when I have to write a paper because I am heavily involved in what I am writing about and I feel that I need to have mastered the information in…
