Special Needs - Isn't that every child? As a parent of a 14-year-old boy and a 7-year-old girl, I am very careful whenever I use the words 'special needs' in connection with children.
On the one hand I believe that every child is a special needs child, simply because they are all individuals, each with their own special needs. Many of those special needs they have in common with other children – for example the need to be truly loved, cared for and…

Hi all,
As most of you no doubt know, there are a couple of documentaries which are either out or going to be out soon which probably don't make teachers look like they are doing a very good job. I'm thinking specifically of "Waiting for Superman" and "Race to Nowhere."
We have a new project that we started today where we would like to share our story. Our objective is to let all stake-holders have an opportunity to present a 1 to 2 minute clip…

Had a great class with year 5/6 using Cmap.
This an excellent tool for creating concept maps - we used it to introduce a unit on transport.

We are always evaluating ourselves and our lessons, today's PD is about how I used SurveyMonkey to formally evaluate myself last term.
Examples of Informal evaluation
- Lunch room discussions with teachers
- When speaking with your students, as a whole class or individually
Why you use it:
This is often done as part of 'Formative Assessment' - to see how you or your students are going so that you can…

The path to growth and development can be ugly at times. Educators are part of a world that is continually changing and evolving, and as such
we are forced to take a leap, and at times take a leap when we are not
ready. Going through all my undergraduate classes at Mizzou we were
always told how rewarding and fantastic the field of education is, and
from where I sit right now I could not agree more. So...the big
question…

This year is the first year I seem to have a good use of moodle with my students. Do not get me wrong, I have been using moodle for 3 years or so. But now, it seems that my students can pick it up better and less not knowing what to do to start and assignment. That may be because of many years using computers in the classroom. I do believe that programs like moodle will be replacing programs like blackboard. Mainly because it is free and now you can even purchase curriculum for moodle without…

I first heard about
One Day on Earth from
my colleague Galvin. It seemed like a great project for our students, and we spent some time on Friday talking about the event and how we could encourage our students to participate. We decided to promote the project among our IB students and our Club NExT (technology club) members. Eventually the conversation turned to our own ideas. We decided that we ought to…

In my German 3 class we recently finished a story we have been reading for the last three weeks. We have done several different types of
activities to facilitate the understanding of this story, and each
different activity has proven to have both its advantages, and
disadvantages. The unique thing about the activities I have done is
that each activity is something brand new that I have never tried
before. As any educator…
