Did you ever wonder what school was like for kids in other places while you sat through hazy days in class? I must be honest and say that I never really considered how or what people my age were doing. I just always thought every other 12 year old was learning the same way and in the same kinds of places as I. It's pretty cool that nowa days the teacher can take students on a virtual tour of the world; Even better we can communicate instantly with those classrooms across the vast expanses and… Continue

was moved after watching Diane Sawyer's last coverage of Randy Pausch. As I get ready to start the new academic year, I continue to mull over his words about brick walls and obstacles that loom in our way. They are words worth sharing with our students - not once, but weekly. Read More

I really don't know much about 3-D worlds, virtual reality, and such, but I'm taking my plunge. About three weeks ago I received an email invitation reading,
"On August 4th, 2008, and again on August 6th, Alliance Library System, in cooperation with LearningTimes, will offer a one-day conference exploring the possibilities of using virtual worlds to teach literature and to promote its appreciation for people of all ages. The conference, entitled "Stepping into Literature: Bringing New Life… Continue
I've had to learn to make web pages the hard way -- first by hand coding HTML, then later by learning the nuances of several HTML editors. Several other teachers have asked me how to go about creating one and, until now, I'd have to sigh and say, "well first you have to learn a program like DreamWeaver or FrontPage, and then you have to have a server or rent space on a server to put your website on". That's a big learning curve for someone who just wants to post daily assignments or keep a list… Continue

Sometimes ya just gotta take a break. Technically, I can’t say May was a break, though I failed to get anything up on my blog. But all teachers know that May is absolutely crazy, and so no more needs to be said. June, however, has been my respite, and it’s felt good to just step back for a while and rest. Read More.

I've been wanting to get this done for some time now and am chipping away at my goal. I am attempting to make a series of online movies that can be used by both educators and students who are new to blogging. Watch for new tutorials over the next few weeks. Enjoy -- I hope they are helpful to anyone just starting out. Read More

I could give an excuse here about why I haven't been blogging, but the truth is I have never achieved blogging regularity and I especially wasn't motivated to do so during the summer. I continue to battle with the reality that I have nothing new to say - whenever I am inspired on a topic it seems that 5-10 people in the edublogosphere or Twitter have already discussed it and I rarely have a more original thought than theirs. I'm not sure what to do with that fact. I still plan to reflect here… Continue

Today's post is more of a visual connection than that of text. Last night, I came upon a blog post that featured "a set" of images in Flickr and was absolutely fascinated by the concept.
A boy in love with a girl continues to be in love with her and a girl in love with a boy continues to be in love with him, until and unless any external agent(brother or father of the girl) comes into play and breaks the legs of the boy.
Second law:
The rate of change of intensity of love of a girl towards a boy is directly proportional to his bank balance.
Third law:
The force applied while proposing a girl by a boy… Continue

I consider myself to be a "newbie" when it comes to blogging and quite honestly, don't really understand what the main purpose or need it addresses. However, after spending a week at NECC and EduBlogger, I realized that these "bloggers" were creating a network of shared learning experiences… Continue

Clearly music videos, Mtv, VH1 and the likes revolutionized the music industry and the shift to music listening/watching. For movie watching, the same applied - laser disks, VHS tapes caused shifts in technology to CDs, DVDs, Video-on-demand to DVR and video downloads, flash movies and of course, who could forget - YouTube. And the list goes on... Now iPods, iPhones, Twitter,… Continue
