Learning Styles...

I took the Multiple Intellegence Test (which was 80 questions) and as I reviewed the results, I saw a lot of what I was. The highest score was Body/Kinesthetic, which is where you learn by being a hands-on type of person. This was the strongest of all of what I had, and I believe that was good. The other scores that are high were Interpersonal, Music, and Visual/Spatial. Being a very loud and social person I am, I knew that Interpersonal would be high. Since I have been brought up playing… Continue

The Power of Audience

It's quite common to hear people talk about how students benefit from having a genuine audience for the work that they do in the classroom. Personally, I have always agreed with this because it just makes sense. But I am beginning to experience for myself just how much of an impact an audience can have. My latest classroom podcast featured some student samples that were based on the writing trait "Word Choice." Normally this would hardly be a topic… Continue

tests, tests, tests

So I just took two little personality tests and I must say it was an interesting experience. Most of the personality tests that I have ever taken have been about what my personality color is or what type of cheese represents my inner being, but I really found these tests very revealing. I did have a problem with the PLSI test because in two of the sections I had an even split of 6 and 6 and it didn't really address what to do in that situation and so I don't know if my profile is accurate as it… Continue

And so we go...

I've decided to try to find online resources that are working for other Information Specialists. I attended a session at FETC recently and found that I am beginning to find my own PLN through Facebook and Delicious. Now, I am going to try to find other like minded individuals through Twitter, Ning and any other fun places I find myself. I am hoping I will find some new friends and colleagues. I'm ready for the ride!

Inventories

I took two learning/personality type tests.

The first was a learning type test. I found out that I learn visual/spatially. I would say this is accurate. Typically I like to see how things are done before I can do them. The test also said I learn well with words. I do enjoy writing and believe I have a creative imagination.

The second test I took told me my type was INFP. I have taken this test before and had the same results then. I believe this test is very accurate when… Continue

Proposal for Capstone

Introduction: This is the last semester of my Master's in Instructional Science and Technology (MIST) at California State University at Monterey Bay (CSUMB). At the start of the program I was interested in making learning modules for teachers to learn how to use Moodle. However, my work has shifted from focusing on designing instruction to finding best practices in web 2.0 (especially Moodle) and finding barriers to the adoption of these tools.

Statement of Need:

Web 2.0 at Sea

This is Day 77 in the Vendee Globe around-the-world race. Skipper Rich Wilson, the only US contestant and the oldest skipper in the competition is in tenth place. At the start of the race there were 30 skippers. Now there are 12 remaining in the race. Rich is rounding Cape Horn today. Ironically today he was sailing in nearly the same position that he was in when his Great American boat capsized off the coast of Cape Horn in 1990. It was an… Continue

Media Arts Film

It was only a few years ago that Westdale got its first digital camera, now we have a fully operational Mac computer lab (30 computers) complete with digital video cameras, editing with Final Cut Pro, plus a full array of software for graphic and web design. The students are energized by the courses and it has infused a validation of all things progressive into the school community.

Snowball, Arkansas...that was an education

I was the First Grade. All by myself. There were thirty-two students in the entire school, grades 1-12. Mrs. Nadine Martin wore a rhinestone pin and matching earrings every day. She was the definition of beauty to me although she stood a little over 4 feet tall, had a lazy eye, and was shaped like a barrel.

One day, Mrs. Martin asked me to work with Missy, a student who was having trouble understanding syllables. Missy thought "cowboy" had four syllables. The funny part was that the… Continue
