I don’t know about you, but I am the type of person that likes to get things quickly and not spend a lot of time debating or arguing. Case in point, whenever I go shopping I tend to buy things quickly with the goal of getting out of the store as soon as possible. This usually results in my forgetting to purchase a few items or my buying something which is overpriced or doesn’t fit right.
I have realized, the hard way, that whenever I spend a few moments and make a list of things I… Continue

Found my way to a talk at the Berkman Center for Internet and Society at Harvard on Monday by Jeremy Bailenson. Bailenson runs the Virtual Human Interaction Lab at Stanford and they explore the implications of human interactions through avatars, among other things.
Bailenson was talking about avatars, a hot topic right now, for sure. His basic point was that avatar… Continue

After taking the MII, I learned a few things about my learning style that I didn't know and did not expect to be reflected in the results. My complete results can be seen below. I thought that the MII would reveal that I am more of an Intrapersonal learner rather than an Interpersonal learner, come to find out, I have the same percentage score on both. I also thought that my Mathematics percentage would greatly out way that of the Linguistics, but in comparison they were much closer, with 32 in… Continue
A Three-Dimensional Model for Understanding Student Disruptive Behavior: Part Three, The Interpersonal Approach*
The interpersonal approach, the third dimension to understanding student disruptive behavior suggests that many youngsters naturally acquire anti-social and irresponsible behavior through rewarded peer socialization. Many of these youngsters do not have positive role models in their daily life to imitate. Therefore, the interpersonal approach advocates that… Continue
Does it happen to everyone in education that they lose touch at some point, like an athlete that doesn't know when to hang it up, and they hold on for too long... to the detriment of those they have been hired to serve?
Thing about this issue though is that age, oftentimes, has very little to do with the matter of when someone should hang up their educational spurs. Truly, some people ought to take their chips off the table after but 3 months in this profession -- and for a… Continue

I have taken things like the MII before, in fact I have taken the MII. They are neat tests because it's neat to see the results. It's neat to somewhat see what I'm like, what I enjoy doing, etc. Although it is good to see those things, I have trouble seeing how effective they are. I mean, how much do they help? How much good do they do? Maybe for some people they work, but for me, they don't do a lot for me, even though as I said it is interesting to see my results.…
After completing the MI Inventory, the only thing I know for sure is that I have changed quite a bit since my senior year of high school. My highest category was Interpersonal, which I found to be odd. Most people who meet me think that I'm quiet (at least, that's what they think at first). I used to think that people who said that we're crazy, and then as… Continue
Just wanted to let you know that it IS possible to make pretzels at home from SCRATCH. We had our FIFTH, (yep, count 'em: 1, 2, 3, 4, FIVE), snow day of the year (and it's only January) and I finally mustered up the nerve to try that recipe from food network that had been hanging on my frig for months. For my first attempt at something with YEAST and completely… Continue
A Three-Dimensional Model for Understanding Student Disruptive Behavior: Part Two, The Intrapersonal Approach*
The intrapersonal approach, the second dimension to understanding student disruptive behavior, is quite different from the group and community building perspective. It focuses on how individual students process information, and control and manage their own cognitions, emotions and behavior. According to the intrapersonal approach, the irresponsible behavior of… Continue
Why is it that the higher up one rises in terms of being an educational decision maker with real power to wield, the further one is distanced from actually working with real kids on a day to day basis?
Kinda weird, huh?
I mean, by this logic -- wacky as it is when you really think about it -- the ratio works out so that those who make the most influential decisions are the folks that spend the least (if any... and I literally mean, if any) time with real kids in… Continue

1. newb 1086 up, 101 down
buy newb mugs, tshirts and magnetsA term used to describe a inexperienced gamer/person/etc. Unlike a noob, a newb is someone who actually wants to get better.
Leet Player: Why is he just looking at the wall?
Other Player: I think hes a newb.
I found this definition on urbandictionary.com and can definitely relate. I know little about technology, but I am exctied… Continue
This post is a commentary on the future of Computer Labs as well as a "cry" for your input on what you believe a 21st Century C-Lab should look like. This will also become the first in a series of posts regarding a major transformation both physically and philosophically within our school. We are remodeling our school. I am going to re-purpose and re-structure our lab. I am not 100% confident that I am going in the right direction...this is a bit of a risk. You're input here would be of great… Continue
