Wel, it's been a while since i've written anything here, but i've been keeping up with everything as best i can. A lot of major things going on in my life at the moment keeping me from the net and what have you, though it hasn't been easy.
Anyway, I finished my paper on the pros and cons of using the web in the classroom and what have you. Once I figure out where I can store it, I will give you all a link to it so you can take a look at it. Honestly, I have a lot more work ahead of…

Hi all,
This is the last blog about the conference. I have covered all the sessions I thought worth covering. What I would like to do is provided a link to the
Presentation Page for the conference. If you click on any of the highlighted links in the list of sessions, you can either download the presentational material that was provided or to view a recording of the presentation itself. I would…

I had the exciting opportunity to attend the Model Schools Conference held in Orlando, Florida (yes, DisneyWorld!) back in June. The conference was run by the International Center for Leadership in Education.
After attending a wide variety of lectures over the 2 1/2 days I had three main takeaways in the areas of brain research, technology and the (near) future of education.

I could give an excuse here about why I haven't been blogging, but the truth is I have never achieved blogging regularity and I especially wasn't motivated to do so during the summer. I continue to battle with the reality that I have nothing new to say - whenever I am inspired on a topic it seems that 5-10 people in the edublogosphere or Twitter have already discussed it and I rarely have a more original thought than theirs. I'm not sure what to do with that fact. I still plan to reflect here…

I started out my career as a middle school classroom teacher teaching computer literacy and language arts. Go figure. At the time I was asked to teach "what" a computer was, not really "how" to teach writing and literature using a computer. Being the rebel, I thought I would kill two birds with one stone by having student learn about main idea and supporting detail through learning how to use a word processor and a
floppy disk. I did more…

There are so many free tools out there that help businesses, teachers, students and just about anyone embrace new technologies to doing things that were not possible even a few years ago. In my own experience, Web 2.0 tools is like being a kid in a candy store. Every day I find some new tool or widget that allows me to do something complex with a very simple tool.
A great…

I've got a new focus to work with for my PD for next year: itunes sharing. Computers on the same network can share itunes playlists and I am considering sharing professional learning videos and podcasts. There are subscription sites like PD360.com but the act of creating our own podcasts could help with teacher reception and use.
Do anyone have an ipod? and Do you put professional materials on it?

Students are no longer anchored to one institution, but now obtain their education from a variety of sources. Clearly, they have a real need to transport their educational experiences, using Web 2.0 tools that have legs beyond a single campus. But current institution-specific ePortfolio programs fall short of this mark, and students’ future employers are seeking job candidates who know the Web 2.0 and worldware tools that… Continue

YouTube have a beta tool - annotations. I'm sure more features will appear soon as YouTube have acquired
Omnisio but this will have huge implications in any curriculum area where the creation of media is core. I teach music and I've been waiting for something like this for a long time!
I've done a trial of how a music track might be delivered in YouTube with an ongoing analysis. Currently it is not possible to include the…

Dojo Learning: Adult learners in the workplace are accustomed to the the freedoms of adult life. Free will, independent thinking, and the ability to make choices are only a few of the joys of being cut loose from our constrained youth.
However, the straight jacket experiences of high school and adult control never leave us completely. We spend twelves years of our lives learning how to behave and perform for our teachers. Rebellion…

Carl and I concluded our first run of (WSI) Website Investigation: An Introduction to Information Forensics.
This is a fully facilitated Moodle based online class. We had a lot of fun and the participants were great. We also radically underestimated the amount of time the course would take. We figured 5 hours in one week. When we polled the class everyone reported taking far more time with each case study.
It doesn't surprise…

Dojo Learning: Assessment is the process of investigating a learner’s work for evidence of understanding and competence. Typically, we learn content and then we are assessed through a test at the end of the process. But that’s not natural, assessment happens throughout the process of learning.
Let’s take the case of self-assessment. When we teach ourselves a skill or new knowledge we are constantly asking ourselves “did I get that?”…
