My school and myself are both directly affected by the fires. I have linked up my blog (at unabridgedopinions.blogspot.com) with my twitter account to keep everyone updated.

Utterly Different

I do not know if I have the words to describe my experience today on my first day at HH high school. I do know that I did not come home with a splitting headache, a dry mouth, or agida because the children were so incredibly different than the middle school students. I feel like I have entered teh twilight zone and I am in the perfect school. The students do not fight in the hallways, they do not talk back to the teachers, they are actually smiling, and they acknowledge your presence. Now I… Continue

Introduction

I am an ESE inclusion teacher at the middle school level. I currently live in Florida, but I don't know for how much longer. The county and state are tearing education apart, micromanaging, reducing funding, destroying morale. I don't know what to do. Do I pick up my family and relocate? But problems exist everywhere.

Last Day at the Middle School

So the very last day of student teaching in the middle school was a little more than what I expected it to be. But before I start I just have to say that the night before I made cake and cookies for the staff and students in my classes. The staff was more than appreciative but the students' thank yous only came from a slight few. I spent the day giving out survey's that would help me as I move on to my next placement. Some of the students were serious about my lessons and teaching style. One… Continue

Why I Am A Educational Technology Teacher!

Creating and building a web 2.0 classroom can be hard and frustrating at times, particualrly when you are trying to model and encourage other teachers to just begin using technology. I just gave a session on making newsletters with publisher. I know that the thought of web 2.0 would be too much.

Just being an educational technology teacher in a school is hard. So why do we keep doing it? The frustrating thing for me is knowing that when students leave my class they are… Continue

I have another blog?

Blimey, so how am I going to find the time to make the most of this blog - I already have two others on the wilderness of the web - is a ning based one better? worse? different? Is this blog just for classroom 2.0 that I'm logged into at the moment or will it show on all of my ning subscriptions?

Web 2.0 is so time consuming!

UK Teacher Community - any takers?

HeIlo all! I am new to this site, but very keen to get cracking and make some new acquaintances! I would like to know if anyone has any ideas on how I can create and cement an online community of teachers?

In our teaching and learning network, we have access to thousands of teachers, but I wish to raise the profile of elearning in their minds, and create a community of interest, where teachers communicate in order to solve common problems or exploit areas of interest.

I know…

Errrgggg... Techno-Frustration

Well, last month's attempt to embed video into my blog post obviously did not work. I thought about editing the entry today. Cleaning it up. Sweeping away all the code. I stopped myself as I deleted paragraphs, changed words and erased the codes. Why not leave it? Leave it so that I can learn from it. Obviously I didn't embed the code correctly. So, I went searching for solutions and posts with answers. I've found a few but am still reading.

And reading, and reading... that is one…

Assessments

The past two days have been spent on these specific benchmark assessments the 8th graders must complete by the end of the year. Yesterday I showed them the assignment and we created an outline for it as well as an introduction. I ended up writing the introduction and the students just copied it. I was not teaching them how to write effectively, only how to copy well =/ In any case I explained to the students what their task was and that they could use thier notes for the essay. It was hard…
