Plants are sprouting

Day 2

Today I noticed that some plots vegetables have sprouted out of the ground and have begun growing. We also took data of our plants today. We recorded the height of our plants and the date that we planted them. We also noticed a really green growing garden at the end of our garden land, they used coffee grounds and planted turnips. Almost the whole plot of land they have is growing with green! Smart Tip: Plant Turnips with coffee grounds.…

Garden power!

This is the first post of our school garden project! To stay up to date about our project check in daily.

Day1

Our gardens are growing sprout lings! Its a sign of life for our personalized garden plots. The challenge about our garden is that we started planting in the middle of Fall. So we need to try to keep our gardens growing healthy during the harsh colds of Winter. We may seem like aimless fools braving the cold, but I believe we are showing that with enough care and love…

Differentiated Science classroom

I teach 7th grade Life Science in Harrisburg Pennsylvania and I have a dilemma. We moved to full inclusion this year, so I teach heterogeneously mixed classes of 26 students. In my classes I have a child with Downs syndrome, and several students with MR IEPs mixed in with regular ed kids and kids with gifted IEPs. I am looking for sources or suggestions on how to meet the needs of all my…

Google for Teachers, ESL

I have found lots of good information in the "Google for Teachers" document from freetech4teachers.com.  I look forward to trying some of the features.

I also found some recommended sites for ESL students and have signed up my student.  One is the usalearns.org and usalearns.org/class.  I can set up a classroom or my student can register independently.  I set up a class and student and plan to assign some of the reading/videos/activities for my student.

I have my ESL student…

China's Great Firewall

I am frustrated by the number of great things that are blocked here in China. Does anyone have experience of alternatives to things such as google docs, facebook, twitter, google image search and diigo? Theses are all currently blocked. Also does anyone have any links to persuasive information about using VPNs or alternatives as we are not allowed to use them in school.

Building communities of bloggers

So having outlined the reasons why I decided that blogs were the way to go for teaching and learning, what is the best way to do it?

I remember a talk given by Tom March once, and he said that everyone should have their own domain. I took his advice, and his recommendation of the hosting service Siteground. I registered my own domain names (well,… Continue

Reflections on Collaboration

There are so many students in our class which I enjoyed reading about, actually all of them.  I think this is an outstanding method to introduce students to each other.  I will definitely do it, if/when I teach online.  I have looked at the images and read the comments many times.  Leslie Guichard especially interested me with the photo of her grandmother and then the description of her journey to the USA.  I find family history intriguing. Many of the students in this class have travel…

Blog for your life

Technology has come a long way since these were games. These were around when I was a primary school kid. The main difference I can see is that we've gone from consumers of content to creators of it.

If you're not familiar with how we work at Castlemaine North, I guess one of the most important things to know is that we are big into kids creating content. To do this, the guts of… Continue

Using Twitter in the Classroom

I am now finishing up my certificate in online teaching from the University of Wisconsin @ Stout. It is a great opportunity to learn more about how I can incorporate technology into my on campus classroom and my online classes in the future.

I read the following article for an assignment:

Billiot, Theresa  (2011) In One Online Class, Twitter Brings Students Together. The Chronicle of Higher Education, Retrieved September 30 from…
