This is my first year using a computer lab in my social studies class. We are totally tech-integrated, using old iMacs with xubuntu. Everything we use is either open source or freeware, with the one exception being the two "teacher" computers that we use for creating videos, documentaries, editing podcasts, etc.
When I first began, I loaded moodle and I was impressed by the multiple features. From one site, students can blog, create wikis, access a course calendar, read assignments…
Energy is basic requirement for all life, and it is part of the fabric of the universe. It seems to me that research and practical application of micro-production of energy receives the short shrift in discussions about technology in education. This may be the one area of technology where the first adopters may have issues.
There are organic based energy microproduction units, and there are designs and prototypes for mini-solar panels that can be part of your clothing. I think that all… Continue

I’ve been using the Downey Walk-Through method of supervision more regularly since school began last year and with some work with my superintendent, have refined some of the things that are going on. Last year when I was doing them, I found it very clumsy
to have an index card to write on.…
I have started programming a few simple learning activities that can be added on web pages flex labs. They are all designed to be easy to embed. Here is an example.
This is simply a matter of specifying parameter values in the embedding code (pretty much the same way youTube does). I won't be in a position to provide any reliable service for another few weeks (I am about to… Continue

I forgot to mention in yesterday's post about Twitter. Chris Craft loves it, so I thought I may give it another whirl. This summer I briefly checked it out, but got sidetracked..... He gave me a few pointers so I'll look in here and see what others have said and done with it. I'm not sure what happens when you add someone to follow. Hope you don't mind if I follow you!
For those of you who have never heard of Kyte.tv I can really recomend this service! I have just started a new project with a class of 26 15 year old Swedish students. In short: the students will produce 5 minute shows about Sweden, youth culture, health and education - In English of course. We will also use this service for live lectures and class communication. In the long run, I hope to twin with a foreign school and use Kyte for communication.
I belong to global-mindshift.org, Forgenow.org, and the worldmindnetwork.net. I invite all of you to join me either there or at other places where people are preparing to create a profound shift in the way we as responsible members of the human race connect.
I'd love to hear from you!

So, it has been while since I have written only because I have been so busy with completing things for my last week at my first placement. In any case last Friday went extremely well. I gave the students their vocabulary quiz and started them on finishing their mobiles. There was a twist in the day when I came back role palying one of the characters in the story we had been reading. One of the assignments that the students had to do was come up…
We are taking this class on web 20 and I am learning a lot of different, cool, things. I can't wait to learn new things in tech and in blogging. Hope everyone is enjoying the day and hope to get some new friends. Here's to all of you!

We had an inservice day today - teachers actually visited schools of their choice. This was not your typical day of meetings that may-or-may-not be geared toward your needs of professional development. I jumped at the chance to find a school/teacher experienced in integrating web 2.0 tools in their curriculum. Although a tad over my elementary level, I found an excellent resource not too far away from home in Mr. Chris Craft. Many of us who…
This is my choice for the Blog Action Day for the Environment blog entry for Classroom2.0. It seems to me that ecolibris is a community action group that ties the virtual world with the real world in a sustainable manner.
Whether we like to admit it or not, we all have favorite activities that… Continue

I am pretty new to most of this, but I am looking forward to using many of the tools that I am learning about in my Web 2.0 class. I am going to try to use the Delicious website. I am also getting my feet wet with Twitter. My goal is to get better at using these tools and pass them on to my students. I'm sure that we can do a lot of great things with them in class.

On Monday, 10/15/07, my district scheduled a professional development day based on content area. There were over 100 science teachers in attendance. Of the breakout sessions that were available, over 50% were based on techology. I was particularly excited to see that over 60% of the participants came to a session on Podcasts that I presented. During this session, we learned what a podcast was (many had never even heard the term). We also spent time learning how to download podcasts. Finally,… Continue
