Old dogs and new tricks, I remember Legos but not ones that moved on their own or with commands. After a two day training I am so excited about using them in my classroom. I called my mom and told her she shouldn't have ever stopped buying Legos for my brother, she said "I knew it was on the job training, but they just got too expensive." I had to realize quickly that she was right. Kits cost $250 each and they suggest to only have 2 students…

The software is not that hard to use (especially ning - soo easy) so I thought it would not be too much work to put up one of my own. Turns out that getting that critical mass of users to keep the site going is a lot of work. We have had two false starts and finally our
algebra teacher site looks like it is building some momentum. Who knew it would be this hard?

Elementary Technology Teachers teach how-to.... and integrate technologies. We must spend time teaching how to use software and hardware so that students can apply tech skills in other areas. In our struggle of encouraging everyone to integrate SMARTBoards and other IWBs, I find that we do not have many of the tech How-To... lessons for the IWBs. SmartBoard and Promethean lessons for curriculum topics are springing up all over, but we still cannot ignore the basic technology knowledge needs.…

This is a map of the Chicago region showing concentrations of poverty and locations of poorly performing schools (according to state information). Our aim is that people use these maps to focus attention, and resources, on neighborhoods where non-school volunteer- based tutoring, mentoring, arts and/or technology programs might help keep kids safe, model different careers and aspirations than might be modeled in a high poverty area, and help…

I'm not very good at this blogging thing. I think you're supposed to do it more than once a month.
The tablet program is going well. I'm grateful for all those schools that did one-to-one programs before we did. We definitely learned from your successes as well as your pitfalls. Thanks!
I wish I could get the students to treat their tablets as well as the teachers do. I have to bite my tongue not to yell at them when I see them carrying the tablet by the…
