This past week I had the opportunity to attend the Technology and Learning Conference in Seattle. David Warlick gave the keynote address on the last day of the conference. I thought that I would comment on a couple of the points he made during his address. One was his proposal to change the emphasis on education from the the three Rs (Reading, "Riting, and "Rithmatic to the four Es

I attended many sessions at the conference two on classroom walk throughs. One walk through used the FLIPvideo camera to record what the students were doind in the classroom during the walkthrough (the message being "It's not about teaching, it's about learning"). After the walkthrough the administrator emailed the three minute video to the teacher, the teacher viewed the video and completed a reflection sheet. After this the admin and teacher met to discuss the teachers…

Halloween is so much more fun as an adult opening the door to cute little princesses and pirates. It makes me sad to see this harmless activity dwindle as parents become more fearful for their children. I live in a small rural town in central Oregon, surrounded by single family homes with many little children. My overflowing bowl of candy sits 3/4 full as only about 20 little ones have eagerly rung my doorbell. My cute little granddaughter, wrapped up as a purple butterfly may not ever enjoy…

Last year my school was very fortunate in the fact that all the teachers recieved document cameras. However, ever since I recieved my it has been trouble. All last year I couldn't us it because it wouldn't focus, so I had our school tech person take a look, fellow teachers and our district tech person. By the end of the year we finally fixed the focus. Now I have realized the light on my document camera doesn' t go bright enough and it doesn't show true color. For example dard colors (like…

I’ve just twittered, ning’ed, rss’d, moodled, twined (well I was there but decided not to) and I’ve got to admit I’m feeling kinda bloggy. How do people find the time to keep up with all this ________, (be nice there’s more than four _’s). I’m at a loss as to how to describe it. I see the benefits of the various networks but feel that selecting one tends to mutually exclude one’s self from the others. (Again, there’s just not enough time to keep up with all the various networks). It was nice to…

It has been a gorgeous day in eastern oregon, about 60 with beautiful blue skies and no wind. Probably one of our last for a great while. (too bad I had to spend the day inside) Looking forward to the annual Hermiston- Pendleton Football game on Friday night here in town. Halloween, Play-Offs on the line and the biggest rivialry there is aside from U of O and OSU, it should be a great night. WIth all of that going on you'd think that I didn't have anyting else to do. But I do .... Does anyone…

When the World Wide Web was created in 1989, its main objective was to enable the free exchange of information via interlinked hypertext documents.
After 20 years, we have created firewalls, filters and blocked information flow for various reasons. In our own education systems, students are limited to certain video sharing sites, social communities, and blogs. Many students have more access…
