VoiceThread: A New Generation of Storytellers

Joyce Valenza mentioned the online photo-storytelling tool, VoiceThread,

as she cruised through new technologies for teaching & learning at the

AASL (American Association of School Librarians) conference in Reno, NV, October 2007. The quick demo she showed set off a fireworks

display in my brain...possible uses for this technology as a school librarian in

collaboration w/… Continue

Flock: The social web browser

Another great idea for linking all social networking sites in one web browser! Not long after I have experienced Web2.0 sites, I wondered if I could routinely visit different sites to update information. Today I found this great tool, Flock.

"Flock was founded on the vision that the web browser can and should enable the richest user experience possible across information-gathering, sharing, communication, self-expression and interaction.

Every individual has their…

Inviting You to Contribute to Day in a Sentence

This was a feature started by another blogging teacher, who decided to stop blogging, and I have taken on this weekly feature called Day in a Sentence, in which teachers boil down their week or a day in their week into one concise statement.

We have about a dozen regular contributors and I want to invite YOU (that's right, you) into the mix.

Here is how it works:

Monster Project Update - Pakistan

Well, the votes are in from around the world: Japan, Taiwan, England, Pakistan and a bunch of the continental United States. Bilbatauri Nussa Chauri (translates as Lady Monster with the Big Nostrils) has been chosen by all kid participants as this year's best monster name. Students ages 4-13 contributed descriptions and worked as classroom teams to sculpt the final product -- now we can all compare. Interesting - everyone had the same set of directions, so now over the next few days we'll see… Continue

Giving Thanks

There are many "charities"

that you might turn to during this holiday season. One I chose to write about this Thanksgiving Day has a strong web

connection and an interesting approach to the idea of helping.

It's Kiva, a site that provides loans to the working poor. Kiva lets you connect with and loan money to unique small businesses in the developing world. Kiva is a Swahili word meaning…

Vista, Who?

Yesterday it was the first time I had a chance to use Windows Vista and new MS. Office at the school library. All I wanted to do was to print out my paper but I couldn't find a print function. I looked around all the icons on the screen and started to get nervous after trying to find a button or menu for awhile. This is very ridiculous if I have to tell somebody that I'm in IT program yet I couldn't figure out how to print a document. I finally used Crtl+P instead. But how come I couldn't find… Continue

Help needed....Could someone out there help me find documental sources, links, pdf documents that would enrich my BA program on theories of English Grammar? Something like a time line history of the different grammarians or how Grammar has been developing according to each of the English language learning methodolgies? You know, like generative grammar, Transformational grammar, etc.?

Thank-you

My first look in the classroom 2.0

My first look in the classroom 2.0 begins with a great problem: I speak only a little English. I speak German. So i search geman people or german speaking people ...

If it's not live it's Jive

I have been in the synchronous world of online education for about 11 years. It has been exhausting. I truly believe that most people learn best in social environments. I think the regular old boring classroom has a lot of positives in it, like real-people.

I think correspondence/asynchronous courses are successful for about 20% of the population who are geared toward learning in an isolated environment. To them having to listen to lectures or participate in group discussions or… Continue

The Pale Blue Dot

I believe that education is one of the most, if not the most important profession; we truly impact the world every day through the lives of our students. In my blog on www.masterymaze.com, one of my posts is "The Pale Blue Dot" which discusses the importance of collaboration, sharing and mutual responsibility. As a preface I offer a view of one of my favorite YouTube videos entitled "The Pale Blue Dot", which offers an interesting reflection on the…

School Life Blogs

I'm always on the look out for ways to bring more relevant themes into ICT. I'm also keen to bridge the gap between the ways students use computers in school and at home.

A project that my school is doing on SEAL (social, emotional aspects of learning) provided the ideal…

Assumptions of Appreciative Inquiry - Look on the Bright Side

(Cross posted from my school blog.)

The Thin Book Of Appreciative Inquiry by Sue Annis Hammond is just that, a very thin book (59 pages) that explains and describes

the process of appreciative inquiry. Hammond describes Appreciative

Inquiry this way,
The major assumption of Appreciative Inquiry is that in every organization…
