Things an Assistant Principal must have!

Yesterday, as I walked 200 students down a 50-yard stretch of concrete in the cold downpour of rain, I had and epiphany!  There are some things that an assistant principal should always have in his/her office.  I am sharing these "must-haves" with you now, so that you might walk in the rain in comfort!

Things an Assistant Principal MUST have

#1  Please have a raincoat with a hood in your office. It should zip shut.  Also, it must…

Session Four - reflection

This morning I see the value of this blog and the whole bit about reflection being important---first I'll vent a second.

This was a marathon session for me. First I discovered there were things I hadn't done last session, and I had to get them in, which put me several days behind. Then I diivided up the work, what would I need to do each night, etc., only to get to the end and discover that once again, I had read wrong, and there was more to do. Ten portfolio entries--it seems…

EDTC 601 - Week 2 -Activity 5: Project - Blogging about Bloom and Marzano

Blogging about Bloom and Marzano

In this post I will discuss, ‘How will your knowledge about Bloom's taxonomy and Marzano's research affect your lesson planning? How could you improve or change them to be more effective?  How could you share your new information with your colleagues to possibly enhance their teaching practice? What is the most important information you would want to…

Parallels Desktop 7 on iPad 2

Hi all,

As a longtime Macbook/Pro user, I have made good use of Parallels Desktop to run a virtual Windows environment on my Macbook. This has worked well, as QMS is a Windows based environment.

I have recently been debating on what is the next step for computer technology in my classroom. I have been comparing tablets to the nth degree! Based on the fact our school network is Windows based I have been focusing on Windows based tablets from Acer and Asus.…

Bloom and Marzano impact

As I was contemplating what to write about and why, I starting thinking things that I already do according to the two strategists.  I realized that I already incororate most of what they speak about unconsciously.  For example, when I am doing a writing assignment involving Pop Rocks to encourage descriptive writing, I know that it is actually an example of nonlinguistic representation.  In addition to this, I know that when we do "Show Don't Tell" activities for writing I am addressing this…

Applying Bloom's?

I certainly hope that I did  this (Applying Bloom's Chart)  correctly.  It doesn't feel like it.  If any of you interpreted this differently please let me know.

Thanks for stopping by!

Bloom's Similarities and Differences

While completing this activity I discovered that although I had not known about digital Blooms, I have already been implementing the "verbs".  In my personal studies as well as with the students I teach, I rely on many of the tools that digital Bloom's suggests every single day.  Emailing, blogging (viewing of), publishing, etc. are all things that I use on a regular basis.

Here is my completed…

Bloom and Marzano

This week's activities have encouraged me to add more theory behind my lesson planning and instruction.  The first area I need to improve in is catering more to the visual learners.  A long time ago I had a supervisor who liked flow charts and I had to create one for every major work process we had using Visio.  A challenge to this was that I was the only one with the Visio software so I printed them for the supervisor to see.  I don't need to see things to understand them, so I provided…

Marzano and Bloom

Bloom and Marzano are ever present in my lesson plan strategies.  I made many lessons without even knowing about Bloom and Marzano, and looking back at those lessons, I see how their ideas are present throughout my lesson plans.  Now that I know more about the two, I can make better plans, especially in the context of online education.

While all of Marzano’s…

Around the world

I'm currently attending the Teaching and Learning with Vision conference on the Gold Coast, and while my wonderful daughter has decided to wake up at 4am, I thought I would write a quick blog post.

I've been very fortunate to have my proposal to present at the Global Education Conference accepted. And while I acknowledge that I am still a novice at international collaboration, I have made some… Continue

Using Technology to Develop Vocabulary

Students are regularly emerged in complex technologies and want to explore the world and gain knowledge using high-tech devices.  However, high stakes testing mandated through the federal government as a result of the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) of 2001 has placed enormous pressure on teachers to raise reading scores.  With such pressure from government mandates, many educators find it difficult to spend time integrating technology into their classroom when they are trying to improve…
