Online Teaching: Opportunities & Challenges

There is a lurking teacher in each one of us. Does it sound familiar? Well to be honest this is true but with a rider – If you are teaching for the sake of hobby or for sharing some other knowledge then its fine. However, if you are a teacher and want to teach your subject online & get paid for it then I am afraid you will have to train yourself in the art of teaching online. Remember if anyone is ready to pay you by the hour he or she is looking for their money’s worth. It’s like any other… Continue

Have you used Wordle yet?

Last week my colleagues and I had a retreat to discuss scholarship and research We used many collaborative tools such as our wiki to collect data and ideas, but we also used wordle.net. While doing an assignment on podcasts I learned about the Education Podcast Network. Using Google Reader I subscribed to WIT (We Integrate Technology) and learned more. An interview about Global Explorers led me to their site in Wikispaces, which made an excellent example for my Web 2.0… Continue

Nov 10 Readings: Fishman; Carrigg, Honey & Thorpe

The key theme in these two readings seems to be the necessity of making sure that collaboration between those planning scaling and those implementing scaling.

I'm really glad we read these two pieces, especially Carrigg, Honey & Thorpe. These provide concrete examples of how to get a reform to work. They also answer my previous question of "can schools be retrofit?" The answer now seems to be "yes, but with a long-term plan that emphasizes ground-up scaling with local… Continue

Student Paperwork reduction Act of 2008

http://nomorepaper.pbwiki.com/

“If a classroom or homework assignment has a digital equivalent, then the student shall complete the assignment without the use of paper.” StRIP-A 2008

When I walked through campuses and see student work I’m amazed at the enormous use of paper. Everything is on paper.
