Have you used digital portfolios in your classrooms? I am a Spanish teacher and I started using them this year. So far, so good. My students love them! So, I would like to share experiences with these tools.

5 ways to spread the power of Twitter as a PD tool...

This past weekend I had the opportunity to attend the EdcampKC technology conference in Kansas City, MO. This was my first

"unconference," which basically means the entire conference was

participant-driven and each session was presented by someone who was

actually attending the conference. There was a big board set up in the

main room, and before the conference officially started any person

interested in presenting was able to… Continue

Student to Student writing

I teach a Senior Writing course in CT. The curriculum focuses on Business Writing styles (letters, emails, report writing, resumes, etc...), Academic writing, expository, persuasive, narratives, etc... but recently I am having a harded time than usual inspiring my students, has enyone got some new "hot topics" that my conservative school district won't mind and that my student may actually enjoy doing research as they write.

I finally relize why students today are so prone to wanting to use the computer. Watching a one year old watching a movie on an ipod helped me come ot that conclusion. Students today spend out side of school time using a computer, playing a video game and watching tv. They are introduced to it at a young age. Going up where the computer was just getting known it was a dig deal if we got to go to the computer lab. Sometimes the student will know more about how to the computer then the teacher…

Jocks Vs Cheerleaders: Who’s Rights are Right?

Jocks Vs Cheerleaders: Who’s Rights are Right?

40 years ago the Supreme Court declared that neither students nor teachers lose their free speech rights on a public school campus, ruling that students could wear armbands in protest of

Posting from China

I've had trouble finding social networking sites for my students to use while they are studying abroad in China. I've recently used "Grou.ps" to some success. However, I've had trouble today posting on those sites. Wonder if they're being censored by China's firewall.

The Divided Stories of Education Reform, Personal Cognitive Revolutions, and New Superheroes

A few months ago I interviewed John Taylor Gatto for my “Future of Education” interview series. From 1989-1991 Mr. Gatto was recognized as the New York City teacher of the year, as well in 1991 as the New York State teacher of the year. In the summer of 1991 he retired abrubptly, and in a very public way: in an op-ed piece published… Continue

Learning As I Go...

As a student, I constantly feel I am learning as I go. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday I go to class and something new is shown to me whether it be a way of testing students, a new form of technology, or the best way to decide what device is right for what student. Information is thrown at me constantly and while at the time I feel overwhelmed and as if I cannot comprehend it all, in the end I am able to hold onto part of some type of new information and the learning process…

New Book about Seniors (50 Plus) becoming Entrepreneurs

Today is Thursday, November 04, 2010. The last time I checked the economy has not improved and yet the first Baby Boomer in the USA is about to turn 65 years on January 01, 2011. For me this is the symbolic first cannery in the coal mine where we will require a NEW paradigm for Seniors (50 Plus) to make the transition from the corporate life to a productive, creative retirement life.

The urgency is upon us to select a subject, product or service that you can use yourself to become a… Continue
