Using Twitter in the Classroom

I am now finishing up my certificate in online teaching from the University of Wisconsin @ Stout. It is a great opportunity to learn more about how I can incorporate technology into my on campus classroom and my online classes in the future.

I read the following article for an assignment:

Billiot, Theresa  (2011) In One Online Class, Twitter Brings Students Together. The Chronicle of Higher Education, Retrieved September 30 from…

Computer Assisted Language Learning in Arizona

I will be moving to Arizona to teach at ASU in the American English and Culture Program. I am really happy about going back to live in a place where the sun shines everyday. As I sit here in a very dark and gloomy Kalamazoo, Mi.

I have been using computers in the classroom for a while and I am always looking for people to share new ideas with me. While living here in Michigan I discovered the Michigan Association for Computer Users in Learning. This organization…

TESOL Confgerence 2010 Re-Imagining TESOL, Boston, Mass

I have just returned from the annual TESOL Conference in Boston, Mass. I am so energized with all of the information that was provided in the CALL sessions. There are so many online tools that can be used with our ESL/EFL students in the classroom. I would like to share some of the sessions that I attended.

2010 MACUL Conference

The MACUL, Michigan Association for Computers Use in Learning, took place in Grand Rapids, Michigan on March 10-12, 2010. It was the first conference that I had attended that was for teachers who use computers to further the learning of their students. It was great. I learned about so many e-learning tools and came away very excited to try some of the tools. I would like to share some very useful websites with you.…

Blogs, Cybercoaching,

How does a teacher effectively use blogs in an online classroom?

Blogs are used for education in ways that require the students to reflect , build on the knowledge they have and to share with others. Blogs are used among faculty and their students. They give everyone the opportunity to post their editorials, opinions, personal commentaries and to complete the requirements of a course.

Why am I blogging? It is required by the instructors… Continue

Taxonomy of Assessment (Bloom's Taxonomy)

This week was a very enlightening week. Bloom and I really got around to knowing each other. I had never met the man before. I have a BA in Spanish/English and an MA in TESOL. I was never really interested in teaching K-12 so I was not required to take any education classes. This was more than 20 years ago. Maybe things have changed now.
Well let's get back to this Bloom guy. He has this way of guiding teachers in developing lesson plans by creating a Taxonomy of assessment. I must say that…

Adobe Acrobat Connect Pro (Breeze)

This week was a very busy week. We worked on our Midterm Projects. I decided to find out what Adobe Acrobat Connect Pro could offer in the classroom. It is a very interesting program and has so much to offer both learners and instructors. I became so involved in trying it out that I wanted to know how it really works. I invited some of my classmates to help me try it out. One of them took me up on the offer and I presented my midterm project on the site. It was a great learning experience. The… Continue

The Perfect E-Storm

This week we discussed the "Perfect Storm" which was written by Dr. Curtis J. Bonk. It was a very interesting article. I will post my thoughts on the article.

The first storm was introduced as "Emerging Technology". There is so much"innovative learning technology" emerging everyday that it is really hard to keep up with the new. My experiences so far in the Assessment Class is that there are some many really useful sources that can be used to assess the students in the real world… Continue

Learner Centered vs Teacher Centered Learning

We have just finished Module 2 in E-Assessment Learning. Our final reading was about the differences between Teacher Centered and Learner Centered Learning.

Teacher Centered Learning:

Teaching and assessing are separate.

The instructor's role is to be primary information giver and primary evaluator.

Assessment is used to monitor learning.

Emphasis is on the right answers.

Desired learning is assessed indirectly through the use of objectivity scored… Continue

Blog, Blog, Blog

What does a blog do that a discussion list or wiki can not do? This week in our course we have been discussing blogs. I personally prefer to use both wikis and blogs. I find blogs more difficult to get students to use. This is because blogs usually require more communication with language. I always think of blogs as online diaries. Who is really interested in reading your blog? The only people who will be reading my blogging during this class are my classmates, maybe, and the instructor because… Continue
