Kind of a neat little game … but it REALLY could do so much more …. something more along the lines with what we are doing with Edusim http://edusim3d.com involving 3D direct manipulation of 3D learning objects .. employing the Edusim theory of “Rich-Immersive Learning… Continue

I have said in past posts direct input is to 3D environments what the mouse is to flat ones. Which is basically the point of Mitch Kapor in this article - http://www.news.com/8301-13772_3-9873205-52.html?tag=tb — We are using surface devices with Edusim now of course … but as other more natural forms of input emerge I can see this having an impact in immersive education as well.… Continue

In response to some much appreciated feeback I have been given:
The Edusim environment is more of a concept than it is a software I
suppose (I have received comments/questions stating such) so I would
say that is correct. So I suppose a new paradigm to the classrom IWB
system would be an accurate statement.
Our implementation is built on Croquet which offers TPainter for
the student (and teacher) to quickly and easily add to the environment
- so… Continue

Not bad in general .... surprised the content was still largely blogs, video, podcasts, social networks, voicethread etc. ... was hoping for a little more evolved discussion on live video streaming, 3D virtual environments, mechanima as collaborative/mashable digital story telling platform etc.
Maybe next year.

What do a commercial for Toyota, TV programs such as CSI: New York and The Office, film festivals, and an organization that works with urban youth all have in common? They are at the forefront of machinima,
a filmmaking genre that is helping to shape video for the 21st…
Pink: Great point. I think we need a lot more “yes, but” teaching. You’ve also made a very strong and compelling argument that what might be most important is learning how to learn. How can schools equip more
kids with this…
It also reminds me that interactive surfaces are "not about the hardware" (As Smartech's David Martin rightfully points out).
Touch based surface devices (Interactive Whiteboards or IWBs for those in the classroom) are in fact not about the hardware at all .. Johnny Lee proved the point with the $50… Continue

I hope to have an Open-IWB 2D software ready to download here in a month or so ..... More along the lines of what notebook is for the Smartboard (stripped down free version) ........something free and for the Wiimote board users with similar functionality.... It will accompany the Edusim 3D software and will be built around the Squeakland project.
I will be calling the project OpenIWB - should have a domain over the next several weeks - something that really couples the 2D-3D… Continue
