3 Reasons Why You Should Not Be Worried About The Common Core State Standards

How do we solve the Common Core Conundrum? Or is there really a problem?

Let me begin by saying that I do not believe that the Common Core State Standards are an example of communism run amuck in the public school system.

If you do…I don’t blame you. It is all over the internet. But I dare say there are …

Self Contained Middle School Math Standards and Frameworks - GPS

In a lot of ways, Georgia, and Atlanta Public Schools in particular are always early to the party. This school system is always willing to adopt new reforms ahead of many other school systems, particularly those in metro Atlanta. One of the most significant reforms that APS has adopted over recent years is the push for special needs students to be included in the regular education program whenever possible.  SEBD and EBD students in particular have benefit from this push. This is…

Educating Special Needs Children

Special Needs - Isn't that every child?

As a parent of a 14-year-old boy and a 7-year-old girl, I am very careful whenever I use the words 'special needs' in connection with children.

On the one hand I believe that every child is a special needs child, simply because they are all individuals, each with their own special needs. Many of those special needs they have in common with other children – for example the need to be truly loved, cared for and… Continue

Maintaining Children’s Attention and Improving Their Reading

I‘ve been reading a lot of questions on several Blogs and Facebook pages recently about maintaining children’s interest and attention while they are doing their schoolwork, whether it be at home, or in the classroom. At the same time I have been seeing comments about problems that parents and teachers are having with children’s lack of interest in reading. So as a parent of 2 children, I’d like to share something with you that has really helped us with our 2 children, in both areas – and at the… Continue

Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge, Assistive Technology, and Universal Design for Learning: Technology for the 21st Century ----

No, I haven't come up with the "theory of everything". I wrote two posts related to this topic, which can be found on my TechPsych blog:

I'm back!

It has been a very busy summer. I'm back to work, but now I have another school added to my schedule as a school psychologist. Because of the economic problems in my region, school psychology positions were not created to keep up with the addition of new schools. The good thing is that my third school is CATA: Central Academy of Technology and the Performing Arts!

I am sure this will be a busy, busy year. Although I wish I was still working part-time and taking graduate classes, I… Continue

Aspi2.0 - Practical Intervention Project

Thanks for clicking in!

For a while now, I wondered what I could add to Classroom2.0's discussions. What could I do is such a powerful community? Until now, I've stuck to writing and engaging on my own blog.

I was replying to a post on Will Richardson's blog about 'The School of the Future', and for some reason, talked about the issues I face, as a father of a 7 year old with Aspergers Syndrome. I continually argue that he is… Continue
