Activity 3: Week 8 Blogging about Google Apps

Google Apps is an all-in-one resource center for teachers and students.  It has everything you need – from basic documents to fancy websites and everything in between.  It is an excellent organizational collection and can help me keep all of my documents, sites, presentations and forms in one place.

I’ve learned in this class that it is easy to share and collaborate with other classmates by using Google Apps.  One person can create a document and others can add to it or edit…

Week 7 activity 4 - blogging about Open Source Courses

When I did a search for open source Spanish courses I was surprised to find very little quality courses available.  I narrowed my search down to one site that lists many different ‘courses’ although most are simply short lessons rather than courses.  I chose what looked like the best option, a Spanish Textbook Course called Aprovechalo.

The…

Activity 7: Project - Blogging about Social Networking and Digital Citizenship

This week we explored the world of social networking and how to apply that insanity to the classroom.  While ‘status’ sites like Facebook might not always have a place in education, there are some sites that can be utilized to feed off the social networking craze – a craze that will only get stronger and is here to stay.  As teachers, we have the responsibility to stay current or even ahead of the tide of technology.  By setting up a quality social networking site for our classroom,…

Activity 3: Discussion - Project - AUP Reflection

When I first looked at the subject for this week I have to admit I was a bit unenthusiastic about looking at something like an Acceptable Use Policy.  The subject of ‘policy’ can never be a fun thing to read about and often involves confusing jargon and long-winded sentences all saying the same thing.  I was surprised to find how interesting these policies can be given our role in creating them and comparing them to the standards set forth by the National Education…

Blogging about Acceptable Use Policies

Since I am not working for a district right now, I used the district I am living in – Douglas County Colorado.  Their coverage of acceptable use policy for the Internet comes in the publication “2011 Student Rights and Responsibilities.”  The preamble says nothing about the development of the document or how it applies to online activity.  It does give a list of Board of Education statements and explains how the most successful students have certain behavioral norms.  In all, it is…

Marzano and Bloom

Bloom and Marzano are ever present in my lesson plan strategies.  I made many lessons without even knowing about Bloom and Marzano, and looking back at those lessons, I see how their ideas are present throughout my lesson plans.  Now that I know more about the two, I can make better plans, especially in the context of online education.

While all of Marzano’s…
